diffrence with 2 and 4ohm DVC subs

What exactly is the difference between a 2ohm and 4ohm DVC sub? Also, can you wire a 2ohm DVC sub for a 4ohm load?

    the difference exists to provide wiring options - a 2 ohm DVC sub has 2 2-ohm coils whilst a 4-ohm DVC sub has (surprise!) 2 4-ohm coils... so, yes, you can wire a 2 ohm DVC sub for 4 ohms by running amp+ to coil1+, from coil1- to coil2+, and from coil2- to amp-... and doubt has a 'b'...

    2 ohms geared towards max spl
    4 ohms has lil better sq
    8 ohms better/best sq(home theatre)
    thats why they make 3 ohm sql speakers
    im not sure if the change in sq is from the speaker or from more stress on the amp, most likely the amp.

    So I guess polks high-end LSI line is for SPL purpose only & RTI & Monitor lines excell in sq then. :rolleyes: Im sure its all geared on getting the most wattage out of the amps, a car stereo amp pushing 2000 watts into 8ohms would be huge im sure.

    The impedance has zero affect on sound quality.

    The only thing you could point to as hurting sound quality is that the lower the impedance placed on the amp the higher the distortion but unless youre running a 4 ohm amp at 1 ohm, its still going to be below an audible level.

    Ohms are resistance. When you plug in juice to an amp it starts making power and how much depends on how much resistance is pushing back. 4 ohms is pretty standard. It gives enough resistance to restrict the amp enough to keep the it running cool and making power it can do all day long. Now if you reduce the resistance to 1 ohm there isnt much to hold back the amps power and it will make much more. Most amps are not built strong enough to handle the amount of power they will release with only 1 ohm resistance which is why they fry if ran at the wrong impedance.
