Polk Efficiency

Please bear with meon this because I don't know if I'm asking the correct question, or asking the question correctly (LOL)

In looking at Polk and Klipsch speakers it appears that Klipsch speakers are more efficient, which I guess means a lower powered receiver (like mine) would have more trouble driving Polk speakers?

Why are Polk's (and others) less efficient? Wouldn't a manufacturer want to put out the most efficient speakers?

I'm not sure if my Onkyo TX-DS747 with 90W/Ch in stereo @8 Ohms (105W/Ch in stereo @6 Ohms) has enough power for Polk's 4 ohm speakers?

Not sure if I got my questions accross properly, as you can see I am somewhat confused on this.

Thanks you,
Best regards,....marc

You've got it backwards. High efficient means easy to drive with low power.

Unless you're needing to drive the Polks to earbleed levels, you'll have enough power, though seperates with about 200 high current watts would be better of course. I didn't see you list the 4 ohm rating for the Onkyo, so I would find out whether or not it's 4 ohm stable before making any decisions.

Which Polk's are you referring to?

BTW: Efficent doesn't equal accurate nor is it a reflection on sound quality.

And: Any Polks I'm familar with are plenty efficent.

And-2: Your recvr will have it's work cut out for it if you do use it to push a pair of 4ohm speakers from any manufacturer.

90 db...which most polks are, is considered the threshold for efficient speakers. just an fyi.

it means that with 1 watt, at 1 meter, you can get the speaker to play 90 db. (db is decibels and a measure of how loud sound is)
