Emailing CP members...

When you click on a CP member's name in one of their posts and use the forum to e-mail him, how does that work? Does it use the e-mail account you have associated with CP? That can't be right, 'cause CP doesn't have my e-mail account's password. So, does CP actually send the e-mail to the recipients associated e-mail address? Then when they respond to it, do I get an e-mail in my inbox in the account I have associated with CP? Do I get some kind of notification from CP?
