So should I be able to hear when I'm feeding my speakers a distorted signal, even with a pretty non-critical ear?George Grand wrote: »

Audiobliss,
You don't have to worry about clipping your tube amp when you finally get it. Your speakers are 98db/w/m. You'll blow your ear drums before the amp clips lol:D.

However, a ss amp will sound more powerful on deep bass.
I've got a tube amp here that changed my mind about that. Better than a Rotel RB-1090 anyway.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 * -

That's interesting. Which output tubes are you using? I've got EL34. I'll be upgrading the PS caps next and I hear this makes a big difference in my amp.

Hi Maurice,
My amp uses 40KG6A's. Horizontal output tubes. It's a McAlister Audio amp, made in Canada. :cool:Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 * -
SCR,
Awesome. Your tube type may be more powerful on bass. The EL34 is not known for bass extension. Hopefully, it will improve after some upgrades.
