So should I be able to hear when I'm feeding my speakers a distorted signal, even with a pretty non-critical ear?

    Audiobliss,
You don't have to worry about clipping your tube amp when you finally get it. Your speakers are 98db/w/m. You'll blow your ear drums before the amp clips lol:D.

However, a ss amp will sound more powerful on deep bass.

I've got a tube amp here that changed my mind about that. Better than a Rotel RB-1090 anyway.

That's interesting. Which output tubes are you using? I've got EL34. I'll be upgrading the PS caps next and I hear this makes a big difference in my amp.

    Hi Maurice,

My amp uses 40KG6A's. Horizontal output tubes. It's a McAlister Audio amp, made in Canada.

    SCR,
Awesome. Your tube type may be more powerful on bass. The EL34 is not known for bass extension. Hopefully, it will improve after some upgrades.
