Tube question

Can 12AU7s be used in place of 12AX7s? What about 12AT7s?? They would be going into a Dodd MLP.

    From what Russman told me, they all have different gain levels. I think the 12ax7 is the highest in terms of gain, then the t7 then the u7. I think going down in gain is more kosher than going up. I would run whatever the specs say to run as a start in the MLP. I wouldnt interchange unless the instruction manual says its ok, but thats just me. I'll try to find the sight that kind of explained it

    I've always interchanged at will. However, don't play around with the driver tubes which drive the output tubes, only the input stage.

    If you can get your hands on some telefunken smooth plates 12ax7 you are going to be a very happy fellow. Oh, yea, their not cheap. :(

    The LPS Sovtek are the standard tube is that what you have?? Not a shabby tube at all. I also have used some GE 5751 witch are very nice but not quite as extended as the telee's. Happy rolling are you just leaving your cover off???????

    I have a couple of Teles now that I use as drivers in the ASL AV 20 monos, but I need 2 more for the MLP. I can get a matched quad of either GEs or Sylvanias in the 12Au7s or 12AT7s, for a good price and I can get them today. But if they aren't gonna work right or damage the MLP, I'll just order some NOS.
