Saw HD-DVD

Went to the first consumer showing of HD-DVD at Bjorns in San Antonio tonight. First off, it's purty....had it on a 1080p toshiba 72 inch. I enjoyed it quite a lot, but I think the limitation was the TV and the connection (component). The player is suppose to start at 1k (just like the first dvd player) and it looks remarkably like an HK.

Oh well just thought I'll share my happiness. I of course will not be jumping on this bandwagon for a while. The next dolby and DTS HD will be a few years later for me....when I upgrade components/receiver.

I was shocked by the sharpness but not as much from the blacks...but like I said earlier...probably the TV.

I didn't think it would even do HD over component. Must not be ready to screw over people with older HDTV's yet.

So the sharpness was good and black levels not so good?

Chances are more likely than not, that the TV was not professionally calibrated.

It just seem like the blacks of the movie were very grainy. Though right next to it. the dust trail and leaves behind General Lee in Dukes of Hazard....were so detailed it looked like you could grab the dust behind them and count the individual grains....(welll it was just plan sharp and detailed)

Sounds like contrast setting was up too high.
