I'm leaning towards the Benchmark, as it's a better value, just got a dac of the year or something from stereophile, And it BLACK! I hate silver componentry.

If you're using a tubed preamp, or tubed amp, already, I'd go with the Benchmark DAC. If not, I'd go for the Trivista tubed DAC. If you have a CD transport with an AES/EBU interface, I'd go for the Benchmark DAC regardless.

Well, lean harder. 3 digital inputs, 2 headphone jacks, can be used as a standalone preamp, etc....foregoing all the outstanding awards/achievements what's to think about?

I love mine. It's far more than a better value.

    I really appreciate the input.

I know the musical fidelity does the up sampling. Does the Benchmark also do this?

    Emlyn,
I don't have anything tubesque in the setup. Running a Bryston amp and preamp.

    Steve,
yes I am mostly there. I'm wondering if they will change the black Dac1 to resemble the new silver one.
I don't need the rack ears, and honestly like the chassis of the silver one better.
Nice, clean looking little box, just want it in
    BLACK!

Let me throw one more DAC in the mix for your consideration:

What do you think of the Mark Levinson NO. 36 DAC? I see these are available for about the same price.
