preamp problem

The preamp was in storage for most the summer as I wasn't around. I've pulled it out and set it up only to notice a problem that wasn't there. For whatever reason, it doesnt turn on or off with the power switch (either on the unit or on the remote) unless i hit the mute button first. Was just wondering if anyone has any idea why and if it might be a quick fix or if im going to need to take it in to get repaired. thanx in advance.
