R50 Banana Plugs

I would like to use banana plugs with my r50s but I'm not sure if the binding posts will take them. I read in the manual that you can unscrew the nut and remove the plastic piece in the middle of the post to expose the banana input but I haven't had any luck doing it myself. The nuts on my binding posts don't unscrew completely off of the posts and I have pulled at the center plastic piece but it doesn't seem to want to budge. Maybe I just need to pull harder but I don't want to break anything. Here are a couple of pictures of my binding posts:

Those plastic plugs in the center will come off; use a screw driver or something to take them off. Then you can use the bananas.
