What's the best deal you've ever gotten on a piece of gear- what was it?

mine was and still is a MINT 1991 cdp-209ES single disc ES for $30 WITH shipping. When I say mint- this guy never put a single scratch on it anywhere. Built like a tank and weighing almost 15lbs. The guy said his father had in storage for over 6years, finally gave it to him, and (the son obviously isn't very bright) figured that since it didn't come with the remote then it's pretty much worthless. WRONG! Godbless SONY universal remotes.

If I had to describe the sound of this thing- I would have to say "dry". Warm and dry. I never knew CD's could sound this good.

Mike that's absolutely nuts for that 235. I thought I was getting mine at a steal for $350. kudos.

you know it's strange. That ES model is not found anywhere on google- only the parts for it. It's almost like the damn thing doesn't exist. It's amazing how craftsmanship has gone down in the past 15 years for disc players. Now they're plastic and weigh like 3lbs. it's sad.

Thanks. I forgot to mention (just looked at my reciept): that was the winning price on harmanaudio ebay and I had to pay tax/shipping. Came to $278..still a great deal though

I've gotten pretty good deals on most of my stuff, including my recent aquistion of a Denon AVR-4802 for $467 out the door; but the the best has to be the Yamaha AX-596 integrated amplifier that I got for $60. The seller didn't think it worked. I got it anway and found that it was just missing the Preout/main in jumpers in the back. Got a pair from Yamaha for $3. It sounded fricking great for less than $70 total. I ended up selling off that amp for a profit due to lack of space or need for it. (Edit: Don't crucify me, because I did try to sell it here, but nobody made any offers.)
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I've won lots of stuff from work. It's sort of free and sorta not since I have to work for it. :)

My latest prize was a Bose 321, which obviously I wasn't going to keep, and I sold it for $800 on ebay. I have no idea where the money went, but it is gone lol.

ND13 sold me a set of RTi70s for $225. They were in great condition.

Delivered to Mempho. On top of that I drove 3 hours, one-way to pick them up when I bought them. There are couple of private matters that were involved in the initial deal as well. When all was said and done, I had at least $260 in them.
They were in wonderful shape, one scratch. I had to get rid of them to help fund my vacation. I wish I could have spent more time with them, cause I never really got them hooked up to any real power or even got to bi-wire them.

Did you end up keeping them or selling them to that friend you told me about?

I was happy that a fellow Polkie ended up with them and enjoyed them for a while.

Got a broken CD player for free. Less than 3 dollars in parts later and it was working like a champ again! Best part is, the part that broke, the CD player is not capable of ever being able to break again! The motor will burn out before the drawer mechanism breaks again.

Actually, got another one for free too. Same problem, the drive drawer was not working properly and had an intermittent problem. Found a slipped gear and some plastic bits wedged in said gear. Cleaned it out, still had the problem. Wondered why the LCD screen cover was crooked. Pryed it off, cleaned it up, re-glued it and viola! No more problems. It now resides in my father-in-law's rig.

Geez, almost everything I got was a good deal! I think that second CD player I mentioned though, that takes the cake. That cost me nothing but a little bit of my time and some crazy glue that I already had.

The best deal I got a new item was the Onkyo HT reciever. Brand spankin new TX-SR502S for $25. Got that through AMEX Rewards. $25 was to cover shipping costs.

Although, the best bang for the buck was the tube amp kit I bought and put together. Best little amp I ever heard for $140!

I was planning on doing a 2-channel set-up with them, but my friend wouldn't let up off of me. After weeks of annoying begging, and $250 bucks flashed in front of me daily, I finally gave in. He took them home and put them in a closet. For someone who wanted the speakers so bad, he didn't do crap with them. He is looking for a new house, and plans on letting me set-up his home theater. Boy, he must be really desperate! :D

Haven't stumbled upon any other gear yet.

The best deal I've ever stumbled across was my plasma. MSRP 15K, had been selling for around 9K, got the "lightly used" display model for $3600 with new warranty. That was over a year ago. Today you can find the same quality unit for around $7K new.
