simple ,but nice pair of floorstanding speakers easy build plans call for all the wood to come out of single piece of 3/4 m.d.f.
for less then $200 you can half a nice set of diy speakers.

Did you DIY Scott?
I've thought seriously about tackling the job of duplicating somebody elses DIY design. I mean... come on, even the 1.2TL's utilize $48 drivers. Certainly, if you spring for a nice Vifa or Morel $200 driver, and set it up properly with the right x-over, it would have to sound much better than a bunch of "simpler" drivers. I'm thinking that the OEM's just typically don't utilize the best components for a design - except on the very, very high end (might as well be a small car price-wise) designs.
Now, granted, Polk uses a damn nice tweeter on the LSi's.
But, custom selected parts properly matched must sound better than what is available pre-packaged.
Of course, you never know what it will sound like until you are done... and, by that time, all objectivity is completely lost. -
Yeah I've been thinking of ripping apart some old cabinets and replacing drivers in old speakers....maybe building a couple small bookshelves and using some nicer drivers...might be a good idea before I try and tackle a sub

Take the plunge fellas!!!
At the minimum, go to the thrift store, and buy a pair of monkey coffins, make a new front baffle, pick some drivers, and be on your way....
Don't forget, a VERY affordable kit, for those lacking woodworking skills, is the Dayton monitor at PE. $118 for all the drivers, completed cabs and grilles, and xover components. Only thing that is needed is very simple soldering skills to assemble the network.....
Cheers,
