Anybody heard any of the cd's from Instant Live? Instant Live is a product of Clear Channel. The idea is to use a couple sound of engineers and a mobile studio to record the live performance you are attending and then sell you a copy as a souvenier. Neat idea and it seems it's been slow to take off. If you didn't get them at the show certain artists were available at Best Buy for a limited time after the show (like a few months). Now Instant Live has their own web-store and you can buy shows that you are not attending.

Ever since Jewel's tour back in the summer/fall 2004 I've been trying to get a hold of copies of her Instant Live cd's. I saw her here in town but she wasn't part of the program yet. I've seen copies on e-bay and they usually go for between $120-$180 which is insane. They now have a past perfomances section on the web-store, but it says coming soon.

Anyone have any experience with these live cd's? How do they sound? I'm assuming they try to do a decent job, but obviously there is not a lot of mixing and mastering to be done afterwards if you can buy them at the show. If these shows ever become available thru Instant Live I'd like to get a few but only if I know the quality is decent.

Oh yeah, the show i have sounds fine i've got a copy of the Allman bros. tour(Charlotte,N.C.'03 or '04) and it sounds fine. It's was actually a pretty cool idea ,originally, at least for the first 500 or so ticket holders at the event. It's about time someone came up with a workable idea like this.
Of course every event will be different so "quality" may vary i'm sure sound men/women aren't perfect and venues even less so but i'm sure that the good shows will outnumber the so-so ones.

Thanks for the reply....I think I'd prefer a more "raw" sound for some shows that's why this idea intrigues me a little bit. I think when live shows are mixed and mastered and "fixed-up" it takes away the edge of the performance. This should be a good alternative. Speaking about Jewel, I have some other bootlegs that I just love becasue of the raw, right there feeling of the show. It's just another way to enjoy the music. Right now they seem to be pushing the Black Crowes current tour I may have to pick up a show or two.

i have heard a few of their recordings and they are pretty good. definately a reputable compary that puts out a good product for what it is. obviously it is a field recording with no processing and therefore is totally dependent on the venue and the setup of the band but that is what you would expect. i have heard better recordings than those from them but i have also heard much worse, so i would recommend trying one and see what you think...

Yes I have Train's entire 2004 tour, they handed out instant live CDs at every show. The sound quality is very good, its totally raw and unmixed, which I like.
