Not far from my home is the Museum of Appalachia in Norris TN. Each year they have a Tennessee Fall Homecoming. I've been to a few in the past and they are really nice events that celebrate my heritage here in East Tennessee. Here are a few of their informational quotes from the web site.
Well...I didn't go this year...in fact I was not aware that it was this weekend. I played golf Sat. afternoon and when I got through the wife and I decided to go to this small family style restaurant for dinner in the Norris area. When we got there we were in for a real treat. It was not a big restaurant. If fact it was converted to a restaurant from a model home for a log home builder so you are seated in one of several small rooms. It seems that this restaurant is also popular with many of the musicians at the music gathering as half or more of the customers were musicians. By the end of the evening, there was a bluegrass jam session in every dining room of this restaurant as well as the lobby (at least 6 groups). Where we were eating, a session started with a couple of guitars, banjos, fiddle and dobro. Two old guys got up and started clogging and then a younger couple joined in. It was a hoot. The musicians were very good. After eating we wandered through the resaurant for over an hour just listening to the various muscians. This was not planned or rehearsed and there was no money passing hands. Just a bunch of musicians who enjoy their craft and want to play for the sheer joy of it. This is VERY East Tennessee. It is not unusual for a bunch of old guys to get together to "pick" a little. This evening was special though. Dinner and a couple of hours of bluegrass "up close and personal' for $20 (as always the food was terrific). What more could you ask for?
The event is often referred to as the most extensive and authentic gathering of old-time musicians and pioneer-type craftspeople in the country.
It features over 300 traditional, folk, early country and bluegrass musicians, including such nationally famous folks as Ralph Stanley, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, The Lewis Family, Mac Wiseman, Leroy Troy, Pine Mountain Railroad, The Cluster Pluckers, Raymond Fairchild, Mike Snider, Rhonda Vincent, Sparky Rucker, and many, many more.

Sounds awesome! I'm not one for your typical studio-style bluegrass music, but I always like to watch them play live. I don't really like the genre, it's just fun watching them play
