wanna upgrade from my rt25i's,rti28's and csi30.I am already getting an svs sub I am not working with alot of wattage on my receiver for right now.Only an Onkyo with 65 high current watts and no preouts.I an considering some rti8's or maybe some monitor 70's along with the matching centers and surrounds.Which to choose .I may be stuck upgrading my receiver although I love my Onkyo.I can spend up to about 2000 dollars. And the room size is 15 x 15 but opens up into a bigger kitchen and eating area

    IMHO....?

    RT`s over Monitors
    If you can swing it....Lsi`s

    Monitors...good
    RTi`s.......better
    Lsi`s.......best

You will find much improvement if you upgrade to seperates no matter how you slice it..
More power means cleaner, fuller sound...
A 3ch amp for the front soundstage and center will make a world of difference..
A 5 ch amp is also a great way to go
I run seperate amps for each channel with my Dennon 3803, and there is no way I could go back to just an AVR....big difference

    all just my opinion...

or onion...depending on how ya slice it..!!

Personally- I wouldn't touch the Monitors with a 10ft. cattle prod. The speakers you have now are imo better quality speakers. As far as the newer rti models- i don't think the so called 'upgrade' would warrant the cost to do so- especially if your speakers are going to be run as "small" with an SVS handling all the tricky stuff.

My only question is why do you want to upgrade? Is it because you want floorstanding speakers? Imo with a new SVS in the equation having a floorstanding speaker would be irrelevant. If I were you I would put that extra money into an additional 5channel amplifier (if your Onkyo has pre-outs) or simply a higher powered, better quality receiver WITH pre-outs such as NAD, Marantz, H/K or Denon, so to allow you to purchase a stand alone multi-channel amplifier (outlaw, rotel, Adcom, etc.) down the line. - this would make the biggest improvement imo and would prob. save you some money at the same time.

Sounds like your speaker system is great already. If you buy Monitors- then you're downgrading as far as I'm concerned and imo the newer rti speakers don't improve over the older ones THAT MUCH to warrant transforming your speaker system from the ground up. Just a thought. Welcome to the forum.

I like the Monitors. If youre interested in only HT on a budget, I wouldnt hesitate to recommend them. I do think the RTi's are better but for 98% of movies out there I doubt youd really notice that much of a difference between them. Now music is a different story, the RTi's are far superior but the Monitors are no slouch.
