FXi3's right for my room?

I guess it's upgradeitis hitting me (part of this is Tritonman's fault...he knows why)......but here's the question; My right surround is mounted on a column; I understand most of the FXi's effect comes from reflecting sound in the wall.. would it be throwing my money away if I get these???

Thanks.

Oops :) Hope you dont have a wife or Im sure i'm on her **** list.

The effect you are referring to is when they are in their Bi-pole mode. When in their Di-pole mode the sound is dispursed and not directional so technically wall reflections arent really a thought. In bi-pole mode on your back wall will yield the best sound

On a serious note..you should be in good shape as the FXi3' can be set to Dipole or Bipole which im sure you know. So on your pillar and the other side you would set them to dipole operation, the rears to bipole. By setting your sides to di-pole you would diffuse the sound as they are out of phase which would not create any directional issues while the rears being directly behind should be in phase to complete the full "surround back" experience.

Hey Tritonman, Not to change or take away from the subject, but why are you changing to the PB12 over your 20-39?

someone here has this as their sig.. "once you go bi, you'll never go back" it's true too. ;)

I've been running my FX/300i's for years in bi pole mode.. i love the diffused back surround sound i get from them. don't let their small size fool you either.. they keep up with anything you throw at em. bi pole is esp good if you're like me and stuck in 5.1 with no plans on going 6.1 or more. 1

My room is so big and long the 20-39pci has some trouble pressurizing my room to my liking. My room measures 12x28x7. Not to downplay the sub by any means..its a fantastic sub and I would glady keep it if my room was smaller.

Great comment. I will never go back to directional rears after hearing my bi-pole/di-pole

ok; I think you are convincing me....but will only get one pair; thinking on placing them on the sides, and leave the JBL's on the back; would you agree with this, or would you place the FXi's in the back and leave the direct ones in the sides???

    Txs.

    Txs.

Definately go for the sides and leave the back alone if you must. The change in non directional sound will be better utilized on the sides than the rear
