Those of you with SVS's, how many db's over the rest of your system do you set it. For instance, if all of your system is set at 75db, how hot do you run your sub?

With my 2 channel setup I have always just tuned it by ear, believe it or not. I'm getting pretty good at it too.

edited: I like to run it a little hot (crank it up) for movies to get that little extra boom.

    40db. ;)

I would set it by ear, no SPL meter can determine where you need to set your sub IMO. Its all personal taste.

AGREE; that's how I do it, and then check with the SPL just to see how it does; I've found that I like it around 4-6 db higher for HT, and around flat with the rest or a bit lower for music (that is, when I used it for music).

I set mine to 75 db as well. (makes it about 3 db hot w/o correction factors) Once that is done, I listen to some music and dial it in by ear. (usually drop it another db or so)

Movies still have impact when called for, and the wife does not complain it is to loud during movie explosions (if she is fine with the dialog volume anyway).

I'm an SVS wimp, what can I say....

Mine is set about +3 louder on my settings. I have my receiver set to -5 and the sub adjusted to 88db. Rest of the speakers are set to 85db per the Avia adjustment.

To tell you the truth, I had to break in my SVS PB-12/Plus. The first time I played a movie I was not impressed. After hitting a few very hard bass pieces, Finding Nemo submarine scene, whale scene, Darla tapping on the tank... and then playing the Incredibles on all the fight scenes, I noticed that the sub suddenly opened up.

Now it sounds incredible. Walls vibrate and pictures shake. I am so pleased with this sub that I bought some DVDs just because people said they were "earth shaking". Congrats on your new purchase.
