Polk XM tuner and what to do with it?

OK, I received a XM tuner from the Polkfest (still in shock) and don't know what to do. I was ready to hook it up and found out that directtv is going to start offering it free for premier customers on Nov 15th. I know the Polk piece will sound better than the Directtv receiver, but will it sound $13.00 better? I don't listen to the music channels that often. I know there was a long thread about selling the XM tuner and I do not and will not do anything to offend the genorisity of Polk. I have 2 questions. Do you think the tuner is worth the extra $13.00 a month? (I have 4 kids and no extra income). Do you believe I will offend Polk or the members of this forum if I offer it for trade? Thanks and please don't flame too bad, I will just keep it for another day if it will ruffle too many members. I really do value your opinions and do what the majority of the forum believes is proper. Thanks, Jeff

It's yours to do with as you please. Having said that...Just today I heard a Polk XM setup with some LSi25s and it was superb. There will be one on my Christmas list....

I understand the cost issue...but look at it as purchasing one CD per month (actually costs less) with LOTS and LOTS of tracks.

Whether I hook mine up and subscribe to XM or not, my tuner will find a place of honor on my rack for a long time to come as a memento of Polkfest '05!

I started the "flamed" tuner thread...and ended buying one at the retail price...

I have it hooked up with my also new SDA's, and I can tell you...this unit sounds a lot better than any other tuner and definitely worth the 13 bucks. It is as good or better than many CD recordings. Last night I spent a couple of hours listening to a jazz station and when I closed my eyes I could "feel" the drums, cymbals, piano and trumpet in my room...

Anyone that got the tuner for free and has not activated it is missing so much!!!!!

    Hey Jeff,

It's your's, do what you gotta do. The promises in the other thread were for an entirely different line of action.

I think the $13 is worth it. I already gey Sirius thru the sattelite, but this is way better. You might find yourself listening more. I don't even listen to normal radio any more.

I'm w/ Mac. Even if it didn't get activated, it stays. Loud and Proud.

    Jeff,

Stick it in the closet, at some point you may have a use for it.

It'd make a good Karma, for someone without one, but you may kick yourself for that later....

I appreciate the positive responses. I will put it in the closet for now and see how the DTV will sound. I hope I didin't piss anyone off.

I finally hooked up mine and activated it 2 days ago. Glad I did. I have sirius in my dad's and my cars. Sirius to me seems a little bass heavy. I don't know if it's all the stations or not, but XM doesn't have dj's on the ones I've listened to, which is awesome, but in the same respect, sirius does, which makes it similar to reg radio, minus the static and commercials. I like them both, and glad I hooked up the xm tuner.

First of all, in my opinion it is yours to do with what you will. If you truely have no use for it there are several options. One thought would be to raffle it off, maybe $10 per chance? Problem is that the 50 of us who received them may make up the majority of the forum so that may not be the best idea. Maybe you would want to make someone a great deal? I wouldn't ebay it because that just doesn't feel right but to make a good deal to a friend or forum member would be cool. All just my opinions though. Actually the raffle might work out. I've noticed several times when I've sold something I get a lot of questions from people who always read the forum but don't like to post much so maybe a raffle might work out?? Out of those 48 tweets I sold on the forum only a handfull went to people I actually know.

You can offer it up as karma only to people who did not receive one. Don't put a limitation on the post count since they don't publically post. If they are not comfortable going public tell them to send you a PM & handle it privately. You could then come back to the thread to say it went to a member of CP!

If I were you...I'd just stick it in the closet and keep it. Even if I never used it. I mean, it stands for PolkFest 2005 and the tremendous generosity Polk showed y'all. I'd never part with it.
