upgrading a velodyne cht-8 to svs?

I just hooked up my cht-8 sub to my 2 weeks old lsi9s and lsi center, and i have to say, it seems like there is something lacking in the bass sound. I bought a BFD1124 eq and set it up last night. I added 6 or so filters to get the response pretty flat, and that helped pretty much. There is still, however, something lacking. To make it sound the best, i have to turn the sub down (way below what my pre amp's auto set up sets it at). At a low volume, i am able to hear the bass drum kicking pretty good, but cant hear too many bass notes from other instruments. I havent demoed it out too much with any movies. It does sound alright though when i watch tv, in particular mtv videos and adult swim. Anyhoo, does anyone have any ideas if a sub upgrade to svs sub (i hear good reviews about em, thinking mabee 2531PCPlus) would really be that big of a difference? BTW, i watch tv and movies 50% of the time and music 50% and im not too big of a fan of "loud" bass. Just enought to bring the music-soundtrack out.

The CHT 8 would be a **** in a waterfall in comparison. Would never have to upgrade. Very tight, accurate bass...

You can ALWAYS turn it down... but sometimes you CANT turn it up.
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I would venture a guess the smallest svs would eat that velodyne for breakfast. :)

i stepped up to my svs from a twelve inch sony sub. the sony wasn't bad for only $250, but i knew i was missing out on the lowest of lows. i didn't care too much about spl's, but did care about the bottom end. with the svs, i've obtained ample amounts of both! :D

I have the 25-31 cs+ - same as the one you are looking at but unpowered. (I have a large amp that I run it with giving it the same power as the PC plus.) I upgraded from a Polk PSW-350 10" and an MTX 10" sub.

I also ended up purchasing a BFD 1124 to tame some room issues that I had. The difference is staggering. I use mine for 90% movies but it is really just incredible. Music sounds very good as well.

Mine is "tuned" to 20hz and is the most amazing thing in my home theater. You can read my review of it when I first purchased it here.

    very highly recommended.

I have a Velodyne CHt-8 at home myself...I bought it cheap as an "open box" item and it does an OK job...for what it is. Sounds like your ready for something better then what you have...

I don't know how badly you get bitten by the upgrade bug, but as much as I like my 25-31cs plus - I have really been itching to get a cs-ultra soon. If I would have started with the ultra, I don't know if I would have had this problem.

That being said - I still think the 25-31+ is an awesome sub, I just cant help thinking "what if"....

When I bought the start of my system, I looked at upgrading from the 202 to a velo. I am glad I did not. I bought an energy sub, not svs by any means but it kicks the 202 and the velos I listened to. You won't go wrong with upgrading your sub. For me it was one of the most noticable upgrades.

yea, the only issue i have is that i only keep the sub at pretty low levels. I am only interested in a "good sound" (clean, tight, and most important mixes in with the rest of my system without standing out) at low volume levels. Not a big fan of wall rattling bass. Its good for dynamic parts of movies, but if that happens durring music, it kinda takes away from the song. I really dont have much expericance with subs, and when i demo them in showrooms, i'm never that impresses (probably because they aren't EQed correctly and are too loud). So i was wondering if the 2531PCPlus would be overkill? After expementing with my main speakers, i found that the more power i give them the better they sound at low volume levels. I would think the same would apply to a sub. Oh yea i am also looking at the Velodyne SPL-800R but i hear these things put out more distortion than the sv subs. also they are a bit more expensive.
