Who Turned Over all the Rocks???

Don't know if it's the weather, the time of year, or something else, but a lot of the boards I regularly visit (including this one) seem to be infected lately with newbies who act like they just crawled out from under some rock. It goes beyond a lack of respect, almost appears to be a sense of entitlement gone very wrong.

Boards are a little like living organisms. Those that are unhealthy are subject to parasitic infection of this type. Time after time I've seen boards crippled and killed from attacks. However, those boards that are strong call up their internal defenses and ward off intruders.

To those regulars here that are willing to "strap it on" and take on another arrogant newbie, I extend my heartfelt appreciation. It makes this site worth coming back to.

Thank you Dave for noticing. I don't frequent any other boards, but I was wondering if it was like this on others.

And wow, you're a member that actually owns some Polks :D

well then...it's all ok...I don't have a massive amounts of experience or time on these boards but whenever these "newbies" with attitudes occur I just kind of brush it off in a lighthearted manner.

Way more information than I needed, thanks anyway Dennis!

Thanks for the support all. I've been around quite a while, but only chime in when I feel I have something significant to add. With all the experts here that's not very often. :)

    Dave,

I noticed the same thing. A lot of newbies roaming the boards trying to peddle illegal garbage, making threats, etc...It's sad but it does happen.

Don't worry, there is a solid group of people here that contribute to this forum and as a result, the forum can withstand any infection that comes its way. :)

I may be a newbie to this board, but I'm a veteran of a few others, and I just want to remind all the experts that not all newbies are the same. Some just stir up trouble, whether meaning to or not, while others simply want to learn more.

This is a great forum, and this newbie is glad to be a part of it.

One reason that the members here are so wary of new members is that there are well over 30k members here and less than 100 of those are regulars and contribute to the fray.

I don't recall a "newbie" simply "wanting to learn more" that has EVER been turned away from this forum. It's the post attitude that determines the post response, albeit newbie or veteran.

Remember that there's more than a few "veterans" that have gotten into heated disagreements amongst themselves about issues, yet not a single one has been banned or has left the forum to my knowledge....so I guess it's intestinal fortitude.

I always keep one foot out of this forum and involved elsewhere, have stopped recommending gear...if possible, and also don't participate in the light banter....again, if at all possible.

At 10K posts, I'm hoping to be a quickly forgotten ghost of this place.

Why is that Mark? You have a lot of knowledge to share and youre a big part of this forum. Why are you wanting to leave?

Ive noticed a lot of the vets have stopped posting as much as when I first signed on here. Tour has vanished, Russ and Troy doesnt make too many appearances.

Oh my. Please please don't tell me doro is really leaving. As I read his post that 7358 should be his last one...and then saw that his last one was 7358....my heart just sank. The last thing this place needs is for the diehard, know-it-all (not being sarcastic; y'all who qualify really do know it all), fanatical, PolkGurus to start leaving.

Mac - Good point about the 'masters' posting less. Sure is a shame. It seems this place has shifted a little away from being a place to obtain 'truth' relating to audio gear and has turned into more of a place just to chat. Don't get me wrong, there are still a lot of educational posts, but it still has changed some. And I'm afraid I've contributed to that some. I mean, I have 3000 posts....and I can't say how many of those have been helpful. That's over. My posts from now on are going to have a constructive, beneficial intent - to help. I sure don't know a whole lot, and when I can't help, I'll read. But when I can help, I'll help. And stop just picking up a larger post count.

I would love to see the cornerstones of this club start posting more again.

    And doro...please don't leave.

Things have changed a lot since my first visit to this forum... more empty/stupid/worthless threads than ever before... lots of scammers and brainless newbies...

Many people is posting only to get their post-counter go higher and higher without, actually, being helpful to other CP members...

If the big dogs leave the forum, then there is no reason to be here... :(
I do my best to avoid spam-posts... but I know little about CA or HA

Nothing wrong with a worthless thread. We dont have to be discussing the theory of relativity in order to post.

This forum is a lot more friendly than most others and so we chat more casually. Im a member of the Carsound.com forum and its much bigger and impersonal so I post there about twice a week, only when I have something realitive to say. Here is different. This place is much more familial and unlike any other forum on the internet.

If you go to posting only things realitive to speaker power ratings or THD specs, this place will become impersonal pretty quick. I personally hope it stays the way it is.
