Trying to learn and understand what I'm doing here. I have a bunch of questions, and hope I'm posting in the right forum. I'm trying to set my reciever up properly, and need to know how to set the following:

Center Delay
Rear Delay
Crossover Frequency
LFE ATT
D. Range. Comp

I have no idea what these all mean, or what they do, if anyone has any good ready material, I would really appreciate it. I don't know what info I need to give.

REC. - JVC RX 778V
Center - JVC SP XC75(C)
Floors - JVC SP 29BRX
Rears - Polks R15
Sub - Polk PSW202

Nothing fancy, but just want to make it the best possible.
Thanks Very much

Delay refers to the time delay that the receiver will put on any speaker you select based on the distance of that speaker to your primary listening position. This is done so that you can fine tune your system so that the sound from each speaker reaches your ears at the same time.

Crossover is the point at which the frequencies are sent to a specific speaker. With regards to your receiver, it is the point at which the lower frequencies are sent to the sub. Generally the THX standard isused, which is 80hz All frequencies from 80hz and below are sent to the sub.

Dynamic range compression is a feature that, well...compresses the dynamic range. Kinda hard to explain in simple terms. Some receivers have a setting that reduces the overall volume of the louder passages and refer to it as "Midnight Mode" or something similiar. The intent is to allow for late night listening without waking the neighbors, or the kids.

Check your manual for proper set-up. You should be able to enter the distances via the on-screen display/set-up screen. One of the best investments you can make for your HT is an SPL Meter from Radio Shack (About $40). using the meter is a breeze and it will help you get hte best out of your system. Use the search button and look for "Calibration" and "SPL".
