Finally got a new cell phone

Verizon came through yesterday. To those who don't know, my current phone was basically dead: charging port issues, voicemail problems, etc. This phone was replaced once already after going through a few batts. Anyway fast foward to yesterday. I went to my local verizon tech center and they told me the phone was toast. Said it would cost $53 to get a replacement (my phone's warranty was expired). I said screw that and asked if I could get my $100 credit early (I was due to get it in January '06). Well, the store manager came and talked with me for a few minutes and gave me the credit early.

So after a few hours of looking at phones in the store, I got the Motorola V710 for free. My limit was the $100 credit (less money spent here, means more money for audio :D ) The phone was $150 - $100 credit - a $50 rebate = free.

I really like this phone and it is a huge improvement over my V60s. The reception is outstanding. The E815 was nice too but I was never going to use v-cast. Also it was $50 more.

I did some research on the v710 on the web after I got it and the biggest complaint wasn't with the phone itself, but rather was with verizon cutting down some bluetooth file transfer functions (there is a class action suit against verizon).

Anyway it's a huge improvement that didn't cost me anything.

Has anybody had this phone for a while?? Just wondering how it will hold up..

I also have 15 days to exchange...

The V710 is a nice phone, I sold one to my friend and his mother while I was still working at RS. They love them, the only problem he's had with his, was him running it over.

hey Mike, the v710 is a great phone. I bought the E815 a while back and they are very similar. You are correct in saying that the phone is not fully bluetooth enabled thanks to verizon, however it can be very easily hacked. All you need is a Motorola phone tools kit, that you can get online. Check out www.howardforums.com if you want to find out more about your phone, it's sa good source with people who know way more than I do about phones!

I have a motorola phone that work got (cheap POS), but I've had them in the past and overall, I wouldn't personally own one myself again........Too many problems for my tastes .....although, the one thing I do like is they keep their connections basically teh same for their phones so you don't totally lose the functionality of the accessories that you may have purchased to go with a phone you no longer have (if it died or got lost etc)

hey brett, what motorola did you have? I have found that the newer models are better. The old ones used to suck(they looked great, sounded good, but would break by the time you got home!) However, the most durable phone I owned was a samsung a670. You could have thrown that thing against the wall and it would still work! My sister still uses it now.

The one that I have now is the (VERY) basic phone (cheap boss) V265, but the ones I had before were the V60 (original, and pretty durable), but I had several of was the T730's. I swore them off forever though, and if it wasn't for this POS work phone, I wouldn't be carrying them........(though I'd get a Razr just because......lol)

Thanks for the reply guys...I guess the main thing I am worried about on the V710 is the charging port. It has the same connections my V60 had and it did not last. I hope they fixed the internal problem on their newer phones including the v710.

That website is great..so much info

    Thanks

If you want to check out a site that will show you the phones that are out there (either by manufacturer or service provider), Phone Scoop is a good site to keep an eye on. They also tend to show phones that are coming out soon as well, so if you're not thrilled with what's out, you can at least look at what's on the horizon.........
