I'm upgrading almost all my speakers i currently have klh speakers the ones that are the same size for all 5 lol (hush they sound better than they look). I'm going to order an svs pb-10 in a week. I have a yamaha htr 5250 reciever. The next thing i want to purchase in a really good center channel, and then the 2 fronts. I think i'm going to keep the rears klh because they still are very clear sounding speakers. What center would be an awesome choice and then what sides would go good with them?

You didn't give a price range or any room constraints. Need more information.

my bad.. my room is 12ftx14ft 7ft ceiling but it's wide open into the kitchen so all together the room is about 14ftx30ft. I'm maybe looking to spend $100-$200 on the center. Maybe $200-300 on the sides.

Try the Athena WS-15 for the sides and an Athena WS-60 for the center. If there is a best buy near you, they carry them. You will probably want to go ahead and get another pair of WS-15 for the rears. Otherwise the rears are not going to sound right.

Look for a Polk Csi3 on ebay for the center. Front L/R could be RTi6's. There are lots of gray market Polks on ebay that are NIB.

+1 on the CSi3 for that price range.
Then I'd say to look for a pair of RTi6's or Rti4's for your mains. They should blend well with your SVS.

I'm not up on the the prices of the new Polks, but that seems to be a hell of a deal. Somebody please chime in if I'm wrong.

Are the RTi's easier to push than the LSi's? Just making sure that Yamaha can handle them.

Theres a pair of Rti8's for $280 on the gon. Rti70's would also be a good choice if you found a pair of those for cheap.

I have ordered my pb-10 and a csi3 today and it's gonna be a while now to save up for the mains and maybe some surrounds but i have my klh's to try to do the trick for now. I would like to know ALL the possibilities that will match the csi3. I would like to stay on the same QUALITY track that i've been going lol. Gonna have some time to do some research too. So shoot away! $200-$300

    Question for you guys...

Where besides Ebay is a good place to buy used/gray marked speakers/receivers? Someone mentioned gon? Is there a list of good sites i don't know about? Looking for Rti8-12s, and possibly the DENON AVR-785 receiver as well as Csi5.

Let me know when you get a minute.

    Thank you.

Probably needed to start a new thread for that question, but here is a start of a list to find deals on the internet.

    ebay.com: new/used(mostly without warranty)
audiogon.com: new/used(some new items with warranty)
    ecost.com/pcmall.com: new/refurbished(warranty)
    ubid.com: new/refurbished(warranty)
    dakmart.com: new/refurbished(warranty)
    onecall.com: new(warranty)

There are others, but this may give you a good start. Ecost is a personal favorite because most items ship from Memphis and I get them the next day. They also have a good selection of refurb Denon receivers, even the 785, for good prices.

    Have fun hunting.

    Jerry..

The pb-10 and the CSi3 are a great start; for mains I would go for the RTi8's or RTi6's. For surrounds, just stick with your KLH and see how that sounds; I went with cheap JBL's for sides and backs thinking I would upgrade to polk when I had the extra money, but have found myself liking how they sound and don't feel like upgrading those for now...though that will change as soon as I find a pair of FXi3's at decent price :)

I agree on the RTi8's as the next choice. I also agree to save some $ and get all of your speakers before investing in a sub. Keep what you have for now until all of your speakers have been purchased..then get your sub. If you can get it to sound good without a sub..just imagine what a sub would do after that. :)

HTrookie - wait till you get those FXi's..you will wonder how you "survived" all this time without them :) ..btw love that Polk radio you have

look for the front stereo pair first. Speakers that will go with the csi3 are the rti4, rti6. Considering you have a sub- I wouldn't sweat the rti8's. For the money the rti6's or rti4's sound ALOT better- especially when connected with a sub and set to "SMALL" on a receiver.

As for keeping KLH's for your surrounds- not nearly as critical as upgrading the stereo pair but really- upgrade the surrounds too. Since surrounds don't have to be voicematched with the front 3- I suggest anything like fxi3, fx300i, fxi30, rti4, rti28, rt25i.

My fx300i's are two generations back from the current fxi3 models (and my rti4 and csi3 too). They ALL blend together perfectly.

At the risk of turning this thread into an Optical vs a Coaxial discussion.

Use whichever one you want that sounds the best to you. I personally would not use a standard RCA cable. A 75ohm RG6 with F-RCA connector on the end will do the trick. They can be had for very cheap..instead of purchasing an expensive "digital" cable for your coaxial out. If you intend to go the Toslink route..then I suggest a glass optical cable.

ok i'm pretty sure i'm going to purchase some rti6's to go along with my csi3, and svs ..now for the surrounds i'm looking into fxi3's would these be better than say rti4's or r15's? or would the fxi3 not even be worth spending the extra money on?

I like digital coax for short runs ( say under 10 feet )
and opitical for longer runs ( because there is
an additonal electrical to optical and then optical to
electrical conversion in the process and optical is
    less lossy ).

i got my csi3 in yesterday and it's pretty sweet. I thought it sounded like crap at first untill i relized why, when playing music my surrounds made this loud ugly echo'ed sound on some parts of songs and my mains did alittle too..i unplugged them and it sounded great after that...is that sound from the other speakers due to them not being polk? or do all of them do this when playing in all 5 channels?

Music is not the best way to demo your center channel, even less if you are running 5 channel stereo....watch a movie; you should notice the improvement vs. the KLH you removed....

Agreed..you should be listening to your music in 2.1 or 2.0 imo. Unless of course you have SACD
