I hate school. I hate school so much I want to start firebombing. I just want to apply the knowledge I've accumulated (which is more than enough for my career aspirations and more than most others btw), earn tons of $, buy that Audi I've always wanted, the dream Loft by the beach I've always lusted for, and my 2 favorite pornstars- one sitting on each side of me on my custom- made leather sectional, watching Scarface on my 10' plasma, listening to EuroTrance on my THX audio system, with both of them feeding me grapes and dry martinis under the biggest blacklight ever concocted while telling me just how much I rule. Is that too much to **** ask? I didn't think so.

Haha...28...an adult. Age doesn't always directly correlate with 'adulthood', especially at such a young age as yours.

Oh, and yeah, I think that's just a little too much to ask for. :p

Then you get out to the workplace. After spending hours dealing with
clueless management, unreasonable customers, and all the responsibilities of adulthood, all you'll be able to think about was how great it was in school!

Guys, if you are going to school then study something that you enjoy. Getting a degree for the mere purpose of pleasing Mom & Dad, spending some education money or just another place to hang out it a TOTAL FUC(IN& waste of time. I know tons of people that have their degrees and hate what they do. WHY? They studied something that was easy and had no interest in the subject matter. School is easy. Trust me. My degrees are Computer Science and one in Business. I studied them because I enjoy it. Going to university full-time, 3 part-time jobs for a total work week of 90+ hours and still maintaining an "A" average was a piece of cake. WHY, not because I am smarter than the next guy, because I LOVE it. Working full-time is a lot harder than going to school. Sorry, I am not a fan of the "ARTS" program unless you plan on doing post Grad. Degree. A degree in Geography or Sociology is not worth the paper it is printed on unless you plan on doing a Masters, teaching or some job related to that field.

NORTEL released a study about 4 or 5 years ago and predicted that they would be able to hire every Engineer graduating from a Canadian University within 10 years. Write your own ticket if you are good at Math.

If you believe in existentialism, then you are the Master. I know many people with degrees that hate their job, many people with degrees that love their job and many rich people with no degree at all. By the way, those people with no degrees are VERY, VERY smart people. Select Your Destiny. Be Happy. Good Luck.

I wish they had spent their money on something other than stupid crap like that study. They have laid off so many people down here in Dallas, the Nortel campus looks like a ghost town! We had a job opening for a tech in my dept and we had about a 1000 ex-Nortel engineers trying to get back into the company.

Yup, engineering/science fields are getting tighter and tighter-Less jobs, more foriegners taking them in addition to the jobs being moved oversees.

However, as long as you get good grades from a a good school you'll be allright, but you can't just get the BS from a podunk directional school and expect to be making $50K out of the gates.

What is it you want to do anyway?

My guess is 24-28K range would be expected with that work (to start). Which, according to some sites, would put you into the group you're studying... Hmmm....

Well, if you can find a way to get the poor off of government subsidies and motivated to work, you could do worse things with your life.

Keep working hard Andrew. I finished my Masters in May and graduated this past August. Let me tell you, since completeing the course work these past few months have been the least stressful in what feels like years. The job market is so much larger after you get those silly letters after your name. The money will come, trust me it will. Keep fighting, you'll be done before you know it. And say hello to your two **** star friends for me ;).

Dude, I've always struggled in college! Most of the instructors I get are so damn lame and boring that I lose focus and interest. Having ADHD doesn't help, but i've learned to get around it for the most part. My instructor in Microsoft school ROCKED! He kept our attention all the time, took timely 10 minute breaks so we don't space out or get bored and simply knew how to teach.

I would love to finish my degree, but it's so damn painful to sit through those classes with piss poor instructors who spew the same **** over and over right from a book.

Not to put down anyone in here, but i was on track for a computer science degree years back. I looked over the course schedule and determined I was wasting my time. I sunk 1 year of my life (every Saturday 9am-4pm) in Microsoft school and never looked back. Best 1 year and 8+ grand I ever spent!

    Good luck!

    John

That's sad & whats worse is that Nortel WILL NOT REHIRE ANY OF THEM, because they would rather take a college kid just graduted & pay them a lot less money than it would cost them to rehire an old engineer & have to pay them more for all the work experience that he has.
