We got a chance to catch one of our favorite blues artists live recently at the "Blues, Brews & BBQs" festival in Snowshoe, WV. Mem has been paying his dues on the road for over a decade and is a huge talent as a song writer (well over 90% of his set list is original), guitarist and vocalist.
We also got a chance to talk with him and the band after the gig. They're all Louisiana residents, with three (including Mem) New Orleans natives. Sadly, they lost everything in the flooding following Katrina (while they were on the road.) We had already donated heavily to the Red Cross relief efforts, but it still left us with a hollow feeling in the gut when we had the opportunity to talk face to face with these victims. I consider myself pretty tough, but I don't know if I could suck it up and keep going after what they (and far too many others) have endured. Give these guys a listen if you can.
