No surprise at #1. John Williams is a total genius having created that masterpiece!
Personally, I think Godfather deserves to be higher on the list.
Enjoy!

How is Gladiator not on that list?!?!
I personally couldn't disagree with that list more...but an interesting find nonetheless... -
Back in my turntable days, the score from "Rocky" used to raise the hair on the back of neck. Very well recorded album with some great borderline jazz sounds to it.
Yesterday I heard the theme from Rocky on XM 7 (70's Hits) and damn near ran out to buy the CD.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
I thought Schindler's list, the music made me feel the emotions the people were going through.

I have this soundtrack. The main theme done by Itzhak Perlman is brilliant!
Lord of the Rings is way up there for me.
Yeah, how is Rocky not on there???
JohnNo excuses! -
As chessey as the Rocky films are, the first movies' soundtrack is fantastic IMO.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Anything from
John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Hans Zimmer, Thomas Newman, Danny Elfman, James Horner
The best soundtrack i've ever heard is either Meet Joe Black or American Beauty, both by Thomas Newman- but it all depends on the style of classical music you like I suppose. -

Agreed. I was at a high school graduation last June and the school band was playign random pieces before he ceremony, and when they played the Gladiator theme I got chills. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
The Gladiator score is IMO the best score ever written. You think about a movie score and what it's purpose is, to bring you in to the movie, and none does it better than the Gladiator score for me.
I get chills every time I hear that score...
If I would have liked Star Wars more, I may rank that score above Gladiator, and I can see where people can rank that # 1 of all time. But I just can't get 'into' that movie so the music doesn't do anything for me emotionally... -
Wow, I'm kinda sad to see that the Forrest Gump soundtrack didn't make it. There was alot of pop music involved but probably half of teh total score of teh entire movie was Alan Silvestri. That guy is one hell of an over-looked talent. He was on the ballot it looks like but didn't make the rankings.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Yeah, AS is very overlooked. His Back to the Future and Mummy scores are also top notch...
-
Braveheart soundtrack by James Horner was another one that didn't get any credit aside from a ballot nomination.
You know what though, I'd recommend that anyone who wants to see some kickass movies, watch anything from that list of Top 25.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

The Top Gun theme song has the effect on me. -

Agreed, this is another one of my fave's as well. Honestly, this is the only award IN THE HISTORY OF OSCARS as far as I'm aware that was awarded without an envelope. For those who don't remember, James Horner lost to whoever the hell wrote the score for IL POSTINO, and Sharon Stone had to announce the winner sans envelope because it was "misplaced." I was always very suspicious of this, personally, as Horner had become an undeserved loser many times over on Oscar night. Of course, it could have been that his votes were split between APOLLO 13 and BRAVEHEART.
I also think Gladiator is one of my all time favorites, definitely in the top 5 of all time scores. A real shame it's not on the list (I have to take your word, the link has gone bad).
Star Wars should win by default, it's too indellible for anything else to take its place.Current System:

Has anyone heard the soundtrack of steven soderbergh's movie kafka?
It's a masterpiece.
It was made by cliff martinez ex drummer of the chili peppers.
He also made the soundtrack to traffic.SRT For Life; SDA Forever!

Another trippy film score, if you can call it that, is Neil Young's guitar solo score for Jim Jarmusch's DEAD MAN. Really fits the film well. It's amazing what one guy playing a guitar can do for a film.Current System:
