$10 says it sounds like a solid state preamp.

Another 10 spot says it hits the flea market or agon inside of 6 months.

20 bucks says Max will find that it sounds like no other SS pre he's heard before...

As far as selling it, I'm not touching that bet with a 10ft pole, I'm still trying to figure out why Hoosier ditched it. To each his own I guess.

Nope, I replaced it with a NIB A3CR.

First of all, there is nothing wrong with the A3CR except for the one input jack which was mentioned in the ad. I just won't write a review before leaving powered up for at least a day or two. If nothing else, when you move cables and stuff around it can need a little burn in to sound right. Also, there may be issues with having the right interconnect in the right place etc.

Now, I have to ask the question. Why would one sell a pre-amp like this in its given condition then go out and replace it with a new one of the same? I've seen it, I've heard it, but I don't get it. :)

Some people are just anal about their stuff. Whether it's a nick or scratch or non-working function or whether it's audio or cars or whatever. I'm kinda the same way. Just don't have the cash to go out and buy new stuff everytime something happens like some people we know! :p

Thats what I'm figuring. For me though, if I get rid of one thing I always replace it with something different, for the experience if nothing else.

I hope your fingers develop a strange, burning rash from touching a solid state preamp.

Because brother, I wanted you to experience what others can only dream about....LOL!

No, actually Dragon has me pegged. I AM anal as hell, but I don't hear anyone complaining about the condition of equipment they've bought from me, and thats a good thing. I liked the first A3CR so much I wanted a brand spankin' new one because I knew I would keep it for a very long time. It's like trying then buying a motorcycle; you buy the one you think you want used first, then if you're into it big time, you trade it in on a new one--you know, one that no one elses **** has been sitting on...get it? Kevin at Upscale Audio did me right on a NIB A3CR, so I did the sale/buy thing.

Another factor is that the A3CR is discontinued, and many in audio circles preferred the old A3CR to the newer A3.2, so I wanted to grab one before they were all gone.

I'm not an "audiophile" I'm a musicphile. I've been chasing my tail for 6 years trying to get my system back where it was before all of this upgrading started. My last system remained unchanged for 14 years, then I had to go and upgrade. Well, I've come full circle and back to enjoying the music. There's always something better out there, but I'm not into audio for that.

Lemmie guess, the line amp section is decent (for sand), the phono stage blows?
