hooking up another sub with a y connector

I have a Onkyo 601 receiver that has one sub hook up to it.
I want to add another sub . With a y connector.
Do you add the y connector to the existing sub ?
please help.

    Yes, you can do it. You may need to bump your sub out level up a notch on the Onkyo.

    Yes, you can use Y connectors. As for where to place the connector depends on where you are placing the second sub. If you are co-locating the subs, then usually placing a "FFM" "Y" connector with the feed from the Onkyo going to one of the "female" spots on the splitter, the "male" connection on the "Y" going into the sub, and the other "female" connection being connected to another RCA cable that goes to your second sub (this assumes that you have powered subs, and not passive ones with external amplifiers).

    If the subs are not co-located, then splitting at the reciever might be a better option (you are trying to minimize the amount of RCA cables you have spread around the room).
