Sub for me system!

When I finally get an amp in my car (which actually appears like it'll be pretty soon *crosses fingers*), I'll want an amp and sub amp. Due to the same space limitations imposed on my main amp, I'll be going with a Memphis MClass amp, probably the 16-MCD500. For what sub I'm going to use, I really don't know.
I do know I'm going with a sealed enclosure and that I only want a single driver. I've been thinking it'll be a 10". I was originally thinking an 8", but I've decided a 10" would go lower and still be musical. Will a 12" also be as musical? Would it be worth the extra expense?
Now, for brands. If I buy it from the store I'm dealing with, they only carry JL Audio, Memphis, and Alpine. So, which one should I go with? If memory serves me correctly, I can get the 10w1v2 for $250 in a small sealed box. Is that pretty good? I don't know about Alpine's stuff, but what from them would be worth looking at? And what about Memphis; I know nothing about their subs.
I *might* be able to buy the sub elsewhere if it's a pretty good deal and have him still install the sub amp and all. Not sure on that one.
So, what are y'all's thoughts and recommendations on a small, musical sub that I can buy locally? Preferably of the three brands I mentioned, but I'll also consider advice about other brands.
Thanks!!

Thanks!

I would consider a Soundsplinter sub. I own an RL-i10 (http://www.soundsplinter.com/rli_series/rli_10_inch_DIY_car_and_home_subwoofer_driver_information.html), and I am very happy with the sound it produces as well as the output. It has 20mm of Xmax. This is a little more than twice the excursion that the JL sub has. It can also handle more amplifier power. I know there is more to a sub than just the linear excursion it has, but this sub is also known for producing very low levels of distortion. Check out their site and see what you think. Mike the owner is very helpful. He will answer any questions that you have. Even if they point you to another company.Alpine: CDA-7949

8-15" subs can be accurate you bonehead.
All depends on the quality.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

or since u mentioned 8's get two mm2084's, the cones are smaller, but u have two motors moving instead of just one, itll be musical, and if u have a small car its more than enoughPicking ones nose signifies a strong sense of self discovery

Yeah, I've heard they're pretty nice, but I'm restricted from buying from a store. So, they're out.Vr3MxStyler2k3 wrote:8-15" subs can be accurate you bonehead.

Well, I'd probably be inclined to anyways, but it's a moot point because of the parents.
I'm beginning to think about the Polk MOMO MM2104. That should be pretty nice.George Grand wrote: »

dude, you have a freakin tweeter next to you. Youre not getting a deal going to that guy for $250. It should be more like $175 for that combo, if they dont want to do that for you than youre getting screwed. Youll be able to find a much better deal at tweeter. If you dont want tweeter to install it then take it back to the shop that you like. If you dont like that install it yourself. I work 35+ hours a week and go to school full time. If I can find time to install in my truck, then you most certainly can find time to install.

Well, like I said; I haven't talked prices with him in over a year, so I don't know what he'll do for me now. We'll have to see next time I go talk to him.exalted512 wrote:I work 35+ hours a week and go to school full time. Well, I stopped by Tweeters today on the way home. My friend is still 'setting-up shop' at his new location, so I'm going to wait a while before I go and talk prices with him.
So, what I found out at Tweeter:
The same lady was working the CA section that usually is; and she knows no more than what she knew last time (which is just what they told her to say; appearantly that JL Audio is the best!!! Man, I so don't wanna buy from them. Hey, maybe I can go by the one in g'boro? Might be better....this also might be the longest paranthetical clause known to man....must be pretty close...). Anyhoo, it turns out that I can get a JL 10w1v2 in a small sealed box from them for $179.99. The sub itself is $109.99. I asked about the Polk MOMO MM2104 and she couldn't remember exactly what it cost (she appearantly wasn't much interested in looking it up, either). She did say it was about $10 or $20 more than the w1. If I can somehow get a nice sealed box for cheap, I'll probably just get the MM2104; maybe even order it from Polk. That reminds me, I've heard it mentioned before that club members get a discount; would this count? And if so, how much is that discount, usually?
The more I think about it, the more I want the MM2104. We'll just see how it works out.George Grand wrote: »

I remember reading something like that when someone on the HA side was ordering tweeters for their speakers, or something like that. I'm not exactly sure what the deal is there.George Grand wrote: »

woohoo, JL sucks! I must say that the w1 isnt that bad of a sub. I heard it when it very first came out in a local shop and wasnt pleased at all, but i heard it in car about 3 weeks ago and i actually liked it. Now if theyll cut the prices in half for a w6 and w7 they might have something going.

Ok. Whenever I get my highs straightened out and have some more money saved up, I'll be looking for a MM2104.
