Anyone try Bi-Wiring a Subwoofer

Most subwoofers can be connected via RCA cable and speaker wire. If you turn the LFE off on you amplifier and enable the crossover on the sub, you can run RCA cable from the front speaker preouts (if you have the front speakers designated as large), and simultaneously run speaker wires from the front speakers on the amp. If efect you subwoofer is getting bass signal from the RCA inputs and the speakers. I haven't tried this, but I was wondering if anyone has toyed with this type of connection and whether they saw any improvement in bass response. It may sound a little crazy but it's an interesting thought.

I tried a slightly different variation, when I was running my R50s off an HK. In the receiver I had all speakers small except the front L/R, and had the lfe out enabled. I connected my sub up both to the LFE and the L/R outputs, and set the subs xover to blend with the L/R mains in stereo mode.

maybe if I wire both gas tanks on my pickup to be used at the same time, it will go faster...................................??????????????????????

Uhh... I think most subs don't work like that. As soon as you plug something into the RCA jack, it ignores the speaker wire input. Hook it up with the speaker wires, then plug a cable into the RCA jack (but leave the other end unattached to anything)... I think the signal will cut out.

By the way Dennis, if you hooked up two carborators with a dual maifold, you would experience an increase in speed (and a decrease in gas mileage). Thanks for the perspective.

I'm with UNC, I don't think that the sub can take both signals, since that might tend to put high voltages (speaker level) back into your amp through the RCA inputs. There most likely is a switch or relay to prevent the mixing of signals.

unc/Dennis, I appreciate your insight and opinion. I was having one of those pipe dreams and I was wondering who out there in the Forum may have tried this. I have read a lot of crazier things than this idea. Thanks again!

Never use both high and low level inputs at the same time.

Well, you can attempt using Y connectors and connect the L/R and the sub outs onto a single cable, but you are risking doubling/tripling the strength of the signal due to the combining of the waveforms. Not something I would recommend without other equipment to then translate the wave back to the proper amplitudes for the line-level inputs.

Connect a single RCA to your LFE (Sub-Out) on your receiver/pre-amp, add a Y-cable at the subs L/R rca connections to the sub cable and your done...and you get a 3 db gain.
