How about a 36 year old BRAND NEW Pioneer 8 track player?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5811626777&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

How cool is that? I think I have a woody.

Isn't that AWESOME though? I'm about to bid on that thing just "cause." Be too cool to hook that pup up to your main system and jam on some Frampton Live via 8-track, right??!!!

i can honestly say that I'm content with having never actually heard and 8-track. Especially after hearing my dad reminisce about them... heh

They sound like absolute crap---but thats the nostalgia value of it my man. LOL!!!

Let me explain this. My neighbor has an old Volare station wagon w/ wood side panels, the works. We affectionately refer to it as the "shaggin wagon." We went to the park the other day in the shaggin wagon--you know, for old times sake, and Fred (the owner) has an old POS kraco stereo in it--wait, it gets worse--connected to the factory dash speaker (note: I said "speaker" not speakerS). At my request, Fred tossed in Nazareth "Hair of the Dog" (already one of the worst recordings ever done) and told him to crank that **** until the front speaker was buzzing. The Volare was "full" of nostalgia baby, it was cool. The Volare was filled with cigarette smoke and severly distorted Nazareth, you have to bang on the doors to get the windows to go down...priceless.

I particularly like it when the track switches right in the middle of the song....to this day when I hear certain songs on the radio I expect it fade out/in ...sounds wrong when it doesn't.

Yeah, I remember that happening on .....I think it was Elton John's "Philadelphia Freedom", among a few others. When ever it would play on the radio, it was like...hey wait, there's supposed to be a pause right there :p

I still listen for it on Boston's song "Hitchin a Ride." I was so used to the track change during the guitar solo...funny stuff.

Remember being able to slightly hear another track between songs? HI-FI baby! LOL

I never saw such a high class player, mine was an aftermarket under the dash model.

...track change.....click click or was it clunk clunk... :D

Sounds like an episode from "That 70's" show. I never owned a home unit and by the time I was able to drive cassette had become the norm. I do remember having an 8-track in one of the family cars. I'm not sure it was ever used. My dad had a TT and old top loading Allied cassette player. I don't recall him ever having/using 8-tracks and I was around in the late 60's early 70's, the grade school years. Neighbor friend of mine had one in his all in one stereo and thank god I've forgotten all those songs where it changes tracks :)

I saw a few more brand new 8 track players, though not Pioneer.

sorry you didn't get it Steve.. it looks pretty cool. but yeah, i think the seller backed out of the deal once he realized how much interest there was in it afterall. it's pretty cool that one of those survived unused for so many years though. very high coolness factor.

I remember listening to the Beatles on 8-track in my bro's cherry 69 Pontiac GTO back in the day.
    PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

That would have been a cool one to own. I wouldn't mind having one sitting in my system. I heard one my boss had a few months ago. Soooo... Coool..... Sound sucked but it was still cool flipping through the four tracks.

I've still got about 3 boxes full of tapes. No player but I got tapes. Should have chunked them 30 years ago, a pack rat I guess. :o
