I think I have a picture of my old PE...

Mac, the TOTL Pioneer is basically the BOTL PE - with some cosmetic changes...

That is 5, 2 channel amps...

I had 6 channels of amplification on the main stage.

2 Channels on the rear stage.

    1 Channel on the center.

I went from 9 channels of powa to 2. Wouldnt go back for the world either. :)

also, with distortion, especially in car audio, is harder to hear because of the noise level.

i think i might be able to get pioneer elite for below cost:D

Oh man!! I just remember where I saw that 5% THD!! It's for my own HU! Now that tells you something about CA HUs! My (MSRP) $570 HU is rated continuously from 50Hz - 15kHz at 5% THD as putting out 22W x 4. And they advertise it as a 50x4 amp. Wow!! Just imagine how terrible all those $150 HUs that advertise the same 50x4 are!! That's just amazing!

And thats why we always say, a head unit is a HORRIBLE power source and should be avoided at all times whenever possible! Theyre simply too small to make any real power.

my headunit works fine for me, in part because i dont crank it, in part because im too lazy/unmotivated to install an amp

Yes a head unit will work if you just want some type of music playing in the background while you drive. However if you love music and want to get all the detail and performance you can, a head unit will never allow for that.

I just finished installing them before I just had one plugged in and the tweeter hanging didnt have time to finish. With them set up they sound a lot better than my infinity's. They don't distort now I was reading one website that it says too little power that the amp will actually produce double watts which could damage the speaker. But if it can only do 23rms then double is 46rms which is a lot lower than 120rms. So i should be ok for the mean time right?

If you push the amp too far it will clip and when it does it sends out as much power as it can limited only by the input voltage which is usually around twice its RMS power. Still, a head unit will not hurt these things regardless if its clipped. Itll sound like pure crap and can overheat your amp but it wont hurt the speakers as long as its within it power handling capabilities.

thats good to hear I am not concered with the sound quality because they sound good and they dont distort. I am saving for a good 4 or 5 channel amp so I can power subs as well. How do polk rank on subs? I know thier home theater subs aren't good. I was just concerned about not damaging the speakers when audiobliss said that it was most likely. My last infinities were damaged but i think it was because i played alot of bass with +6db the first month, and pushed the receiver too hard, lastly those infinities only handled 100watts max these handle 300.

Yeah I have to disagree with my homie on this one. The h/u will be fine. The speakers wont sound their best but theyll work.

As for Polk's subs, as with their speakers, I think theyre among the best on the market and for the money you cant beat em!

Their subs are geared toward SQ so they dont put out tons of volume or handle tons of power. What they do is sound great and smooth. My MM2104 is very tight, even for a 10 but can still play the boomy stuff easily. It gets down good and low too, much lower than my previous MTX sub. Overall excellent SQ. You should definitely check em out. If you dont have a Tweeter nearby run down to your local CC and listen to the DB's. They are damn fine subs.
