I use Denon AVR 3805 with Polk RTi12 and Bose AM-5 and Denon sc-h1c for center. Do I need a sub? If yes, which one is appropiate.

I have used SVS and Outlaw with my Polks with great success. Are you more into HT or music? What is your budget?And....welcome to the forum :)

50% for HT and 50% for music. My budget is around $400-500. Do PSW work well with RTi12?

I have never heard a Polk sub but from what I have read here and elsewhere subs are not Polk's strongest line. I am sure that someone else here can give you more info there. Check out the Outlaw Audio LFM-1 at OutlawAudio.com. It is at the upper end of your price range but it excels at both HT and music.

I cannot stress enough looking at companies other than Polk for subwoofers. I had a PSW12 that although would hit pretty good for movies and music, the port noise was loud and obnoxious. Do yourself a favor and look at Velodyne, HSU, or SVS. You can get an SVS powered 10" sub for just under $500. If I had known this when I bought my Velodyne, I probably would have gone that route....but, I'm happy with the Velodyne nonetheless.

I set up my new toy, SVS pb10-isd, 2 hours ago and just finished watching Incredibles. My HT used to connect to a Dahlquist 12" 400W power sub, the entry level SVS beats it hands down. I have a big listening room (living room, dining room, and a catheral ceiling, estimate 7500 cu ft of space). It didn't rattle all my picture frames but threw good low punches. IFor with $500, you can't go wrong with it. I will be picking up an entry level Hsu (STF-2) later this week. My plan is, SVS for HT rig, and Hsu for 2 channel rig.

    Hi Ron,

Shipping is free :D because I bought it used from the seller who purchased it late last year when it first came out, and it was only 3 miles away from where I work!!!! The sub is about 10 months old but in mint condition. The build quality is really top notch even at it's entry level status, no box however. I paid $300 which is probably not the best deal in town but still considerable saving from buying new ($429 + $50.3, I almost bought it new and bailed out at the end).

Did you buy from the guy on Craigslist? He replied to my email yesterday saying it was still for sale at that price. I offered to trade him ;)

Yup, I saw the ad and bounce him an email. Since he was that close to my work place (2.77 miles), I decided to check it out after work. After he demo "the knocking the fish tank scene of Nemo", I knew I would be 3 Franklin's lighter :p

It is one of those days that you don't find anything that you want for weeks, and then a few good deals come up all at once. The Hsu is also from CL and is in my brother's possession (he helped me to pick it up from the SF and enjoyed a demo from the seller with the new 60" Pioneer Plasma. I wonder he will return to me ever ....). It is brand a new sub purchased in July 15, 2005 at $465 total, and I (technically speaking, my brother for the time being) paid $290 for it!!! Given how much I paid, I suppose I wouldn't lose too much money when I resell any one of the subs later. I guess the benefit is that I can try both and decide which to keep later.

I've got dibs...Bastid...You robbed me

I was going to call Cadence and cancel my replacement order and take that PB10. I saw the Hsu too, $290 is a great deal. :)

I had a hum in the original Cadence amp. They sent me a new one last week, but it took a nose dive off a truck and the magnet detached from the driver. Before sending me yet another sub, they wanted my swapout back in stock. No problem, arrives tomorrow at the factory.

Rather than be subless, I went to BB and got a "loaner" Klipsch Sub10. Not bad at all, sounds alot like the Velo DPS10 without the funky controls.

I don't think paying 3 bills for the SVS is a bad deal at all. Somebody else was asking $425. Those puppies hold their value. You stole that Hsu...

Sorry, Ron. I didn't mean to step in your way :o Dave (the seller) didn't even mention that someone was interested. To be honest, I was quite surprised that it was still available when I inquired. When we meet in the future, I promise to buy you a beer!!!

It was a joke...(sort of,heh heh). Dave sent me an email telling me it as still for sale, but he wouldn't do a trade (doh). I laughed and replied that I would get back to him later when I sorted out the Cadence deal, if it was still available. I just looked and it was Monday, not yesterday.

Funny thing, I called Cadence today and thought about cancelling, then thought I better confirm the SVS was still available. Then I saw your post.

You won this one fair and square, bud, but if you do unload either the Hsu or the SVS, call me first.
