SDA pecking order
with all this talk about SDA this or that, I think it would be helpful to those not in the know (such as myself) to see a listing of the pecking order of SDAs. I will start with:
1. SRT
2. SDA SRS 1.2TL
Then, what is the pecking order? 2.3? 3.1? You veterans clear this up for the uninitiated.....

1st Generation (1982): SDA 1.
2nd Generation (1983): SDA 1A, SDA 2, and SDA CRS.
3rd Generation (1985): SDA 1B, SDA 2A, SDA CRS+. The 3rd Generation also marked the introduction of the "Signature Reference Series" (SRS) line: SDA SRS, and SDA SRS 2.
4th Generation (1987): SDA SRS 1.2, SDA SRS 2.3, SDA 1C, SDA 2B, and SDA CRS+. All SDA speakers received crossover and cabinet upgrades.
5th Generation (1989): SDA SRS 1.2TL, SDA SRS 2.3TL, SDA SRS 3.1TL, SDA 1C, SDA 2B, SDA CRS+. The 5th Generation of SDAs saw the introduction of the SL3000 tweeter in the SRS line. The SL3000 tweeter provided a flatter, more acurate frequency response than the SL2000 tweeter. The SL2000 had a +5 dB resonance at 13,000 Hz.

If you are talking about sound, that's personal preference.
Mine? SDA SRS 2, SDA CRS+, SDA 2B, SDA 1CCheck your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
dang that was quick....so many different models...and no real pecking order except everybody seems to drool over the SRS 1.2TLs. Does the TL stand for "trilaminate"?
Also, how did DarqueKnight cause the ceased production of SDAs? j/kSystem 1: Martin Logan Vantage, Rotel RC 1070, B&K Reference 200.2, Music Hall DAC 15.2, Yamaha 2300

POLK SDA 1B -
The 2bs, for only having 2 drivers and one tweeter, are simply amazing. But the SRS 2s are incredible. It's been 16 years since the last time I heard the big boys, but I remember, to this very day, that they were simply awesome. I still wouldn't have a pair any larger than the SRS 2s in my house. Maybe sometime in the future, but not anytime soon."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

Tab,
To each his own, but how can you even MENTION any monitor series, much less the cluster **** 10's, is beyond me. You haven't heard SDA set up properly, that's the only conclusion I can draw.
No offense to 10 owners, I know there are a TON out there - but it's not just me - I've talked to higher-ups at Polk, and they have agreed. It was a BAD design, but appealed to the masses. If you know, or have learned ANYTHING about speaker design, side by side drivers simply do NOT work, unless you are doing some passive (or active) intranaural crosstalk cancellation.
Big bass, big power handling, but coupled with a smeared soundstage, and horrible imaging (compared to other Polk speakers ala SDA, and in-line RTA/Monitor ala 8, 12, 15, etc). The 10 doesn't stand a chance, even though it was a top seller. THAT should tell you something about the masses.
Find a pair of Mon 7's. and add a sub if you need too.
Cheers,

The SRT system was designed for HT first and foremost and while a SDA speaker, they aren't the same as the SDA two channel speakers. Having said that, there is no worst SDA speaker, they're all great!
BTW, production actually stopped in mid 1992. How do I know? My 2.3TL's are dated May 1992.Political Correctness'.........defined

Russ,
I believe the operative phrase is "to each his own"........ :-) I have a pair of 7's, but I prefer the 10's. However, upon reflecting on the subject, 2+2 did request a listing of the pecking order for SDA's, so I will edit my post.
