Would it sound good if I power the fronts with 385@4ohm and the center and back with 185@4ohms? (Two amps) Or would it be better to wait for a 5 channel amp? All channels driven by the same watts.

If you have the space for 2 amps it will sound fine. Just equalize everything in the pre-amp with a Radio Shack meter and you will be good to go.
If you really want to get anal about it, it would be the closest match with both amps being the same brand or a true 5 channel amp, but if you have a reciever now - the setup you are proposing will sound great.
Michael.
BTW - currently my rear LSi7's are being run from my 125 watt avr and my front channels and sub are being run by my 500 watt Cinepro. While it does sound really good, I do look forward to getting the board back from Cinepro changing it from being a 4 channel amp (with 2 channels broken) to its intended 6 channel.Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)

Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms) -
I've read in previous post how you came about the cinepro. That looks like it is going to be a killer amp.

it'll be fine- if you're using amps in the same brand, you might not even have to calibrate. I've got 500wpc front & 200 wpc for the rest and it only took a little tweaking to iron it all out.
Also:
A lot of multi channel amps still only have one power supply... so a 2 channel 185wpc + a 3 channel 185wpc can very easily sound better than a 5 channel 185wpc.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

I had always wondered the same thing becasue i am getting ready to do something very similar. I am going to have two seperate amps to power all of my speakers. While they are both the same brand one is a 250X2 for my front right and left and the other is a 150X5 for my center and 4 surrounds.
Glad to see that other people have the same questions that i do sometimes. -
ok. Thanks for the input. The reason I ask is because my b&k runs hot. Thinking about getting a b&k for the fronts. Was thinking 385wpc for fronts but maybe I will look at both(385wpt or a 185 wpt amp). I just didnt want everything to sound mismatched.

yaa.. All this stuff is new to me. But every time I make a move(spend money) it does improve the sound of my system.
It is also nice to be able to ask questions before I make a purchase!
