If you want deeper bass, you don't want to use the Sony....it is only rated down to 50hz....many movies extend down below 30hz. The PSW10 can extend a bit further. I used to own a PSW12 before upgrading to my Velodyne....the Polks offer decent bass for movies if you can ignore the annoying port noise. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the Polk.Haman/Kardon AVR635

what noise? and my sub cable goes into a single sub rca jack on the sony the polk has 2 a red and a white? new cable or y splitter?

I know when using the PSW12 at a little less than half volume on the AVR635 with EZset on, I got very noticeable noise from air being pushed through the port....this was very annoying when watching a movie that had deep lows and it finally got to the point where I just couldn't stand it anymore. I got a Velodyne and have never been happier. Do you need a new cable or splitter? Not necessarily. I believe you can just plug the sub cable into either the left or right input. Doesn't act like a true LFE input since you aren't bypassing any internal crossovers on the sub, but it'll do the job. Turn the crossover all the way up to it's full position, and then set the crossover in the receiver. If you want to get a Y-splitter, give it a try....it may give up to +3db from what I've read.Haman/Kardon AVR635

I would agree on the Polk sub. However the better way to do it would be to sell both and get a better performing sub if you can afford to.
Y-splitting your subwoofer input does not yield a 3db gain in volume. To get a 3db gain you would need double your amplifier power of the sub to gain that (basic answer).
Unless the manual states otherwise..you should be using a single source input. Generally iirc the left channel input is the one to use. However as screxer said most sub amps will let you use either left or right inputs. -
I own a PSW12 and I am quite pleased on how deep and tight the bass is. I just watched, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Oh..my...God!! The cannon blasts sound FX are unbelievable!!
What port noise? I positioned my sub behind the sofa facing it from approx. 6 feet (and 2 feet away from the rear wall). Using Harman/Kardon's EZSet EQ on the AVR635, the PSW12 is set at -10 db and I have the sub's volume set at about 10 o' clock. Frequency crossover set at 100MHz.
I don't hear port noise, but I definitely FEEL the low end! Is there something that I should be aware of?

Sell the Sony and upgrade to a better sub. Use the polk sub for your rear channel speakers.____________________________________________________________
