Bose doesn't make anything better than Polk, except hype.

And they don't make subwoofers at all. Those little turds you see with their cubes are not subwoofers. It's more like the bass you'd get out of a bookshelf speaker.

Considering you are posting this in a Polk forum, I am sure you will get most of the responses as Polk does. :D

In all fairness, Bose (to my knowledge) does not sell subwoofers - they don't even pretend to. (they sell bass modules)

Given that Polk is better than Bose (to my ears at damn near everything) I would rate the subwoofers from Polk as their weakest offering. Subs are one thing that I would not hesitate to say look around at other offering and compare closely before purchasing blindly. Considering price (and discounts) Polk subs may be competative but looking at performance there is much better out there....

    Wow -
    Bass Module
    • Frequency Response - 46Hz to 202Hz at ±2.3 dB
    • Bass Limits (-3/-6 dB) - 46/40 Hz
And to think I actually listened to all those sheep on the Polk Audio forum and wasted my money on an SVS - For double the price, I could have had a gen-u-ine bass module.......

    I hate you guys....

My brother is going to eventually put together the ultimate system 5.1 which consists of four Bose 901 and a cerwin vega center channel and an infinity subwoofer. I kid you not this is his ultimate system. He does have tile floors all around so I am anxious to hear what that room will sound like with that set up. He currently has two pairs of the older Bose 6.2 'stereo everywhere' system but are in pretty poor cosmetic condition. I did try and find some new ones on the bay for him but only used ones available going for $80 so I figured these must be fakes because these are $600 speakers and had to let them go.

He also recently set up a lifestyle music system in the bedroom so I am very jelous. So jelous in fact I had to go and get me a couple of pairs Polk R30 and R15 bookshelves ($280) for my bedroom. Hooked up to an HK receiver and plan on getting a second one. The lifestyle music system does make a good lifestyle out of him though No DTS ES, No DTS 96/24, No Dolby PLII, No AV sync, No bass management, No analog inputs for SACD/DVD-Audio No room for speaker upgradability so its much less stressful than my lifestyle which includes having to add a pair of surround back speakers. I dread going over to his house and having to feel envy but I find comfort in knowing that I saved $1000 on my inferior system.

Wow. That is absolutely nothing short of amazing. I knew Bose was bad, but I had no idea they were that bad!!!

Makes me wanna stand outside the Bose store with these facts and let people know what they're being duped into getting!
For you current Bose owners, try unplugging all your cubed satellite speakers and play a DVD on your Acoustimass system. I used the DVD 'X-Men' for my review. You will be able to follow the entire movie off of dialogue picked up by your Bose Bass Module alone.

    again...

For the people that sell Bose, it pays well. Lots of markup there. Why not sell it? I sold Bose once and had it returned for a Polk system. It was easy to show them better.
Bose is great for people who don't want hassle. Hell, you don't even have to speak english to hook up a Bose system. It's mostly done in pictures. It's for a very specific crowd..to say the least.
As for sound quality, you can do MUCH better, for much less with Polk. Showing the difference was too easy, even for beginners.
If you want ease of use, with basically no upgrade potential, go with Bose. If you want sound quality, with massive upgrade potential, go with Polk.

There is some truth to that.

However I must say, If you had a customer that walked in looking for bose. It was best just to take their money and pocket the $100-$280 in commision, and hope the next guy wanted a real system.
