Sappy as a lot of the music was....Karen Carpenter had a great voice. Their Christmas album is a staple every year in our house.

While not for everybody, Richard Carpenter had a gift for musical/vocal arrangments that is very hard to argue against. And Karen had one of the most melodic voices of the 70's. As sappy as their music was, their Christmas Album/CD has been a staple in my household for over 30 years.

IMHO, a very underrated duo (flame suit on).

I'm almost ashamed to say that I own their box set, "From The TOP", in addition to the Christmas CD.

    Like I said, very underrated.

    I quite enjoy their music....especially Karen's vocals.

But what about Karen's drumming? Is she as good as....for example, Phil Collins?

I think that Karen played drums on their early recordings and Cubby O'Brien (of Mousketeers fame) played drums on the later material.

    Carpenters were very good.

But imo artists like John Denver, James Taylor and Dan Fogelberg are better. That's the kind of singer/songwriting you just don't find anymore.

The Carpenters...they're the duo who did 'I've Got You, Babe'? If so...great duo...

Man, I really (really, really) like James Taylor and Dan Fogelberg. It's always good to sit down at my piano and play 'Leader of the Band'.
