Hey guys,

This is for my dad. He asked me to find him a DVD player. he would prefer it to be black and with 3 or 5 disk carosal (sp?). The reason for a 3-5 disk is for constant karoake.

He currently is using an Onkyo 700, Paradigm Monitor 7/Mini's.

he is not much of an audiophile or videophile but would like decent equipment.

I helped him in finding his speakers and some of the other equipment (mixer, mic.) , but I don't know anything about dvd players. Anyone have a place for me to do research? or any suggestions would be most helpful

Aiming for 300 or less most likely

Chris

NAD T572 - an excellent CD/DVD player does it all including HDCD. I picked one up on Ebay in excellent condition for $200. I use mine strictly for music but I played some DVDs in my HT and was very impressed. You can pick up a refurb from Spearit Sound (authorized dealer) for $350.

Sony ES DVP-NC555ES - A rock solid piece of gear that does SACD too. It is also a very good DVD/CD player. Sony ES gear is nice stuff (5 year warranty and so forth). I have not owned this one but have seen/heard it. I believe One Call has them for $300 and you might CALL Oade Bros. Audio. I've gotten some really good deals from them on Sony ES gear.

i would check out denon as well, i have had the dcm-460 for about 10 years or so now and it is still a fantastic 5 disc changer. checked ebay and looks like you can get b-stock of the newer models (380, 280) for around $120-150.

The 380 and 280 are CD only players. He is looking for a DVD player/changer. The Denon DVM715 and DVM1815 are said to have decent picture quality not regarded very well for build quality.

I can vouch on the Sony 5 disc ES changer. I have the 777es which is the 400 disc version. The only difference between the 2 is the amount of discs they can hold. The image quality on the models is outstanding. They have a 216MHz/12-bit video D/A converter and a 192kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter. Most DVD players in its range only use a 108MHz/12-bit video D/A converter or less. The audio converter is generally the same across the board.
