I have a paypal account with a credit card and my checking account. How do I make my credit card the default method of payment?

You can't, the order that money is paid is:

    Paypal Balance
    Checking account
    Credit Card

You have to click on the other paying preference every time...

I am guessing you are asking becasue you might of accidentally made a large purchase and forgot to change the type of payment. I did this once and went through their email system and they credited my debit(checking), account and I used my credit card on file instead

So you can select the method of payment during the actual transaction, right?

it always defaults to checking account first. but when you choose "choose another form of payment" you have the options of using your verified credit cards.

.........and when you choose your back-up source of funding, you also can choose another credit card or use your checking account.

Yup, it sucks. I believe they charge 3% even though it is a bank account transfer as long as it is a premium account. If you pay by CC, they will have to share the juice with the CC companies.

Fred - are you sure it is 3%? I though the instant transfer is less.....either way it don't matter, I always use my CC, I feel better "protected"

    Hi Scott,

I never sold at ebay, so I can't confirm first hand. It could be 2.x percent. Recalled that I paid bank account xfer for a couple ebay transactions to 2 very nice sellers. Both transactions were around $300 before S&H, and they told me that Paypal had charged them something like $9 ($8.9X). Since then, I paid CC everytime. In reality, it makes no diff to me. My checking account has no interest, and I pay off my CC balance every month; however, I don't feel like I want to contribute to epay's balance sheet because they are milking the small biz/seansonal sellers in a unreasonable fashion.

That is an unfortunate find. I guess that is what the charge to get the product out there in this fashion. You can't disregard the fact that the convenience of getting rid of your stuff on the bay is, well convenient. I have placed stuff that I thought would sell at our community garage sales that never catches the right market. I had an old Kenwood Receiver that I was selling for 25.00 and someone offered me 5 for it. I declined and ending up getting 80 on ebay. So all in all the expenses that they charged was mute. And I never really look at the balance sheet as I don't do much selling on their. Surely if someone was in business then they could write off the expense charges at the end of the year.

Oh well, the price to pay to play..
