what's the difference between the two? Does II have Mosfet circuitry like the new 5400 or something? -

Main diff is caps are slightly bigger...trans is slightly larger...output terminals are farther apart on the back...and it incorporates a triple darlington output stage that is supposed to achieve more linearity for especially difficult speaker loads. Oh yea it has a thermal protection indicator. The reg 545 has thermal protection just not a front mounted led. Pretty much same as a 545, some like the sound of the original better....who knows. They didn't start using Mosfet's until the 5xxx series.

The difference is...
the 545 is better.
Its built better, it sounds better, it IS better. IMO of course- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

My brother has GFA-585LE which is essentially (2) 565 mono blocks in the same chassis. Talk about arc welding capability. That puppy at full tilt will trip the circuit breaker sometimes.

Another thing about the original Adcom series. They look better. No joke...
The faceplate is so much darker, more elegant looking than the faded looking II series...
The Original 535 could mop the floor with the 535 II ALL day long too...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
ok; so back to the 555......price?? Not that I'm interested....but you never know....._________________________________________________

Series II is more of a glossy finish where as original was more of a matte finish. Nelson Pass did the original prototype for Adcom and he commented about the series II, something to the effect they just kept adding stuff....until it wasn't like the original anymore. To keep it in context he was refering to the triple darlington output stage added to all series II Adcoms. I got the general feeling he felt they didn't need it. More for specs than sound IMO. They could then claim that they could drive 1-2 OHM speakers w/o shutting down. I agree with Sid... the original is the better of the two by far.

Before I switched to bryston I was running 3 565's and a 585 for my system... Holy ****, the lights would dim when I lit those up- and each was on its own circuit breaker. I didn't care much for the 585- just too much **** in too small of a chassis, but I still miss those 565's. I could drive my LSI's as hard as i could stand and they'd barely get warm... I might be interested in that 555... I've got another of the same vintage and the biamping/bridge mono possibilities are endless. but I'm not paying any more than $90,000 and shipping better be included.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19
