Which component D/A converter should I use?

My Harman Kardon 235 has a 96/24 bit d/a converter that's accessible by using the digital out to the cd player. However, I have an older model Sony ES single transport that I just love- but I have no clue as to what the specifications are regarding it's D/A converter (is it 16bit, 24bit, 1bit??) The model # is cdp-209es. It came out around 1991 I think. This player's information doesn't even come up on google. If anyone has this or another older es cdp like it could they tell me what kind of DAC's their player is packin?

I just want to use the better D/A Converter- the problem is I don't know whether it's in the Harman Kardon Receiver or the SOny ES player.

Try both... give a listen... make a decision. That's the best way to make decide which is best in audio :)

Andrew, as has been suggested just listen to both and see which you like. Sometimes it's better not to know ahead of time all the spec/details it might make for a less biased listening session.

Why mess with success? If you like the way the Sony sounds on its own, leave it be.
