aside from the lack of analog tone controls on the faceplate- i don't see a difference between the 240 and the older 235. Even on the spec sheet. In fact the only one that appears different from it's predecessor is the 7.2 model (2subs are gimmicky imo)

that catalog was fun to read over and I want that remote.

Yeah not much diff between the 235-240. One improvement on the 240 is EZset+..

I didn't even notice the lack of analog tone controls....too bad bec I like them

yup- trickle down technology with each new line.

Too bad Harman Kardon can't incorporate some of those nice Kenwood Receiver amp designs into their setups. :D

If you look at the spec sheet- Independent Power Supplies, front and back for ALL their receivers. I'm now a H/K customer for life.

I like the remote and the "47" SACD/DVD player. Its "past"time HK got up to speed with both of these items.

    No mention of a 7300 upgrade...............maybe it will be a pre/amp combo with 7 ch/150W amp power. I guess I can dream!!!!

Did you see where they think MSRP on the 740 will be > $3K? Haven't looked at your link, but I don't think this is replacing the 7300. Could be just gas.

I've got an old Citation 24 that I really like and the PA 2400 was a killer at 170w into 8 ohms.

Thats gotta be wrong at 85w/ch its surely the replacement for the 635 phase-out. They have overlapped models a couple times in the last couple years.

That was the buzz over on AVS from an installer that supposedly is hooked into HK. Find it hard to believe myself. I would think this would be ~ $1400-$1500 MSRP from the specs.

Me too...I don't think this is the 7300 replacement. Also, according to the specs, the 740 does not have a torroidal transformer, something the HK flagships usually have..

Although this looks like an great recevier, the rumoured $3K pricetag is too high.

the 740 is touting the hdmi "up-coversion" to 720p/1080i. my 7300 only up-converts to i believe 480p. my television up-converts to 540p or 1080i from there. plus the 7300 puts out 110x7. the 740 most definately will not be the replacement for the 7300. what was its predecessor? the 7200? so it would seem the replacement for the 7300 would be the 7400???

    A couple of AVS replies;

    spillz564:
I find it rather interesting (especially in a forum like this one) that one person mentions a $3K price tag without any reliable information and now many are jumping on the bandwagon stating the price of the 740 is way too high.

Does anyone have any **reliable** information on the price of the 740? I've contacted people at Harman and neither the 740 release date nor the MSRP is listed in their system.

Barring any reliable information that surfaces I think it's rather preemptive to start bashing a retail price that hasn't even been confirmed...

    MCode:
The AVR740 retail price of $2999 was announced @ CEDIA..

If true that's alot of cash for this unit. :(

i'll post this here as well. Are the 24bit d/a converters in Harman Kardon receivers as nice as say an older model sony es player? (the single disc models, not the crummy changers)

I can't find any info on an older es model d/a converter- the cdp209es. I don't know if it's 16bit, 24bit, 1bit- who knows? I've tried google- that model number hardly even comes up. Does anyone know?

It all comes down to the hookup I suppose- Optical or Analog? :o

    Andrew...

I'm not sure. I am sure someone here knows what d/a converter you have in that ES. I can tell you that I had a pioneer dvd player that was made in ~'97 which, I believe (not 100% sure) had 20bit/96khz d/a converters.

thanks Mike. I guess I'll just leave it on analog. That player was really nice back in the day and compared to the 'inch' high players that come out today- it's built like a brick. I was just curious over the whole HDCD thing. I know our H/K's decode HDCD.

The new remote TC-30 seems an awesome universal remote. Too bad they don't sell it.

If the MSRP of the 740 is 3k, it's way too much  !
