the R series were entry level speaks. they performed pretty well for their price though. I remember looking at them when I finally bought my RT 55's back in the day (1999?). Anyway, you have an adequate speaker, but if you really get into home theater, youll wind up upgrading them down the road. That notwithstanding, those speaks can give you years of service.
Trust your ears, if they sound good, then they are good :)

I just purchased a set of these at Frys for $100 after a positive experience with the R15 (sale at CC $89). They perform well above their price which is misleading given that these originaly sold for over $300 a few years ago and nothing has changed since then. I wanted a stepo above my Logitech computer speakers and also better than Bose Acoustimass since I owned these in the past. If you use a good amp/receiver they will sound very good and are an excellent choice for someone on a budget or as a second setup in the bedroom etc. Most people that complain of blown tweeters do so because they use a cheap receiver (cant blame them since the speakers are so low in price). The R50 go on sale on from time to time also at Frys for $50 a piece so if you want to get a set these are supposed to be better.

On SACD they sound very good and while they do lack a bit on the high end compared with newer polks they are not harsh nor do they have sibilance. Will be testing on movies later this week. I dont consider these cheap but rather a good bargain given the price/performance ratio and the fact these were not $50 designed speakers but are only $50 because its an older design. I tested against Klipsch SB series and the Polks have a much better midrange. Construction and build quality is same as other polks.

    Hey Guys,

I'm a new Polk audio owner and I had to respond...

I just recently purchased a pair of R50s (main), R30s (surround), R15s (rear), the CSi3 center channel, and the PSW12 sub for my first home theater system along with the HK AVR635. I must say, I am very pleased with the results!! If these are entry level speakers, then DAMN! You fooled me! PARTY!!!!

My friends were green with envy this past Sunday afternoon and Monday night (Monday Night Football). Just for kicks, we watched "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World." Oh...my...God! One friend of mine returned his Bose 3-2-1 system and wanted to get some Polks!! How about that for a recommendation?

I forgot to mention: all of the speakers are the cherry wood editions. The ladies who attended thought that it added a touch of class to the decor!! You all can take a guess at what happens here after a great dinner and a movie -- Tee-he-he!

    My two cents.
