lots of amps out there...try a price range and...maybe the electronics forums. The Rti 12 can dip low but just might get more responses there.
I have no idea even if you had a price range but know it will help others.
i would think that...amp would be adequete, but then again i just see...Carver.....250wpc and I say ok!

There's no such thing as a "best amp." Looks like what you have right now is more than enough. Carver makes good products, and 250 is more than enough to driver the RTi 12's well. Sure, the specs say they'll take 500 watts, but do you really want to shell out the cash for a McIntosh, Pass Labs or Krell to run a Polk Audio speaker? Especially when you already have a great amp?
If you don't like the sound quality from that match, that's another story. I've been very happy with my B&K, a good 200 watt amp from them would sound great, and a lot of people on the forum are happy with Outlaw amps as well.Current System:

Just for kicks take a look at www.audiogon.com and see the many that are available. Maybe it will give you an idea. That Carver does have lots of power...
What is it you are not happy with?Denon #2900, Denon stereo receiver, Conrad Johnson Sonographe 120 amp, Blue Jeans cables, and Klipsch RF-7's -
what's wrong with the Carver? When I get 250w going through my rti4's then i'll be in heaven.
DAMNIT THEY CAN TAKE IT! -
Ive heard a lot of good things about Outlaw and Crown amps. Quite a few guys in the AVS forums really like the Crown XLS-402 or the 602 on their Polks. Specially since the Crowns are priced very well. I beleive you can get the 402 for about 300$ and the 602 for about $450?
I myself and contemplating getting the crown 402 for my RTi10's based on alot of compliments concerning these amps and the Polks -
Nothing wrong with the Carver...it was just a thought if I can give RTI12 more power like at least 350 wpc at 8ohm,Is not it will sound better than now?     :mad:TV :>Panasonic TC-P55VT50

I can whole heartedly support Cinepro. If you can find one, they are great amps.... My first generation was the lowest power one they made. 350 watts into 8 ohms x 6 channels. (you can bridge it to 1000watts into 8 ohms x 3 channels) also has 3.5db of headroom and 120 amps peak to peak current.

Get a secong matching carver and run them mono bridged. You ought to be getting 500+W per channel in that config.
Adding more power that you won't ever use won't help you're sound quality though. Unless you're DJing for a block party, you have more than enough power. There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin -

Good idea on the bridge mono! -

i was just thinking the same thing. If a replica of that model is easy to find he'll be set for life!
or until the NEXT upgrade bug hits. -

Yes, that is why you would need another one. (it would be a mono amp rather than a stereo amp at that point) usually the power will double to triple and the distortion levels will do the same. (at max output)

That amp would be a nice match for those speakers. At 251wpc, you are there. If you're into the specs, it was actually the cleanest Carver amp of the period (1983-89) with no more than .15% THD at rated power. Nice big analog needle type power meters also. I think it's bridge mono power is 700watts RMS. All the Carver amps I have from that period (M4.0t, TFM-42, and M1.5t) are rated at no more than .5% THD (inaudible). I think it was the predecessor to the TFM-35 and 35X series, as they had the exact same specs. I just remembered I HAVE a TFM-35. The M500 was, in my opinion, the best looking amp he ever made while at Carver. Do it.
George Grand (of the Jersey Grand's)
Can you think of another amp you could get that would allow you to run 700 watts RMS into your speakers for an upgrade price of about $300?
Michael

PT, each of the bridged mono amp channels sees only half of the load. For example, if the speaker is a 8 ohms, then each channel will only see 4 ohms. For the M-550t, it is rated at 350wpc at 4ohms. When bridged, both channels drive the same source; hence, double the 4 ohms output. Like Michael said, the distortion level is also increased when you do so. However, most of the human ears like mine :-) can't hear the 0.x % increase in distortion.
BTW, how do you like your M-500t, I just got one last night and plan to use it to drive my vintage RTA-15TL. The HK DPR-2005's 120wpc doesn't seem to make the RTA even sneeze :-)

I recently won a Carver TFM-35X on E-bay. I'm using it to power my Lsi-15. I also have a Kenwood Basic M2-A power amplifier. The kenwood runs really cool, it switches voltage based on speaker/power demand so it is not always providing all the power all the time, but on demand it is like a turbo kicking in. The kenwood basic series are unknown gems of amps made in the 80s to compete with high end yamaha and carver amplifiers that were popular at the time. The amplifier has very good specs. low HD, will drive anything, dual power supplies, gain volume knobs. The basic name was bad marketing for kenwood, what they were tring to do was go back to knobs and meters, more 70's vintage, 80's amps had 80s cheesey digital cheapness look. The damping factor on the kenwood amplifier is 1000 @ 50 hz making this amplifier a really excellent tight fast SUBW amplifier. I bought it new,
and have been using it full range and in a HT set up, but it is best suited for subs. So I'm using it Biamped to the low end of the lsi 15's and using the Carver for the upper ranges. These kenwoods can be had on the cheap on e-bay and can be resold easily. What i was after was the smoothness of the Carver house sound( imo I like) with the fast punchy bass bass of say a Adcom. To have both charictersitcs in one amplifier, you are in the real high end arena,The new sunfire amplifiers have two hook ups, the Sunfire allows for several different methods of hook-up. The normal operation is to use the voltage source output, which is the standard amplifier output. The current source output is recommended for electrostatic speakers. You can also use a combination of the two by wiring your low frequency drivers with the voltage source, and midrange and treble drivers with the current source. So Carver is doing the same thing, he giving you the choice of sending the tube smoothness of his amps to the midrange and treble and SS punch to the woofers. The sunfire amplifiers are expensive, so I'm trying this set up with older amplifiers , and its working out great for me... Had my buddy over and he was blown away by the sound.. my wife even gave it a thumbs up, saying it was so clear it was scary.. i think the carver amp tames the ring tweeter perfectly.. if you have a harsh cheap amp that tweeter will rip your head off...j/k laterss..
