Polk Audio Series 2 - Monitor 12

Are these good speakers that i'll be happy with? I have rt1000p and I have the r50 with fx 500i. I am thinking of moving my rt1000p to a bedroom as fronts with rc85i's in the back. First off what is a monitor compared to regular speakers? Would these be only good for stereo, not HT? I believe thats the case so maybe i'll leave these in the main room with the other speakers used only for home theatre. I am lost but saw the above speakers on ebay with local pick up and thought i'd might take a gander at em. Heck for that matter maybe i'll pick up a seasonal job at Fry's and try to get some rti10's or 12's. Anyhow anyone that has any insight please chime in!!!

Thanks in advance,

Tom R

part of Polk's old monitor series. Highly regarded by many here, but the favorites of the line seem to be the 7 and the 10. While the Monitor's are regarded, I would say they are not coveted or lusted after like the SDA's were. I never heard a monitor. the closest had was the RTA-12 with the same drivers, but different crossover and bass radiator. If your going to get the monitor, see if it has the peerlass silk dome tweet (leads on the face plate are on an angle, and the dome has a little hole in it (Black). If the tweeter is silverish, it is the SL1000 or 2000. A little harsh in my book, butyou can get the silk dome replacements direct from Polk.

Will they sound good in Home Theater?, well yeah, but getting a center to timbre match will be a bit of a ****. I went this route with my afformentioned RTA-12's, with a pair of Monitor 5's as the center channel. Sounded great, but eventually went to the old LS series with the timbre matched CS50 center. I preferred the sound a little better for home theater, but still liked my RTA-12's a little more for 2 channel music.

I saw these on e-bay also. They are great speakers and more on the rare side as they don't come up for sale too often. From the pics they look very nice and he even has the original boxes. I prefer the old Monitor Series to many of the newer Polks except the Lsi line. These would be a great addition, but as Ohskigod mentioned timbre matching for HT applications is going to present some challenges. These would be excellent for a 2 channel system. At the right price w/local PU these are really a no brainer IMO. If you find you don't like the sl2000 tweet there is a smoother replacement avail. But listen to them first and make up your own mind. Sounds like you have other Polks to compare these to...if you get them.

edit: I just viewed them again and it appears they either have an sl2500 or sl3000 tweeter. If it's sl3000 that's a little better sounding than the sl2000. Amybe someone else can tell for sure if it's sl2500 or sl3000. It's definetly not the sl2000.

What do you feel is a good price for these speakers? I have no clue and wouldnt mind a good pair of speakers for stereo only. I have a denon 3802 that i am using right now with either r50's up front or old rti1000p's but honestly I dont like how either sound at high levels which is making me think it might be more of a amplifier thing for me, not sure. Though I am into this I am not a techy by any means so any thoughts are appreciated!!

    Thanks,
