Suggestion for the future

I may be putting a Polk product up for sale soon. I've been scouring the archives to come up with a fair price and have noticed that once someting sells one goes back and edits the original post to show it's sold. During this process I've been finding that they edit out the asking/sales price. I personally think it's important to leave the price in the posts so when searching the archives for info, the info is there.

Just thought I'd point that out and see if people concure with my idea.

I disagree. We offer stuff at below reasonable cost at times and this forum should not cause a decline of a legitimate price being asked today by someone else.

So help me out here what would you suggest? I'm by no means ready to sell, but I suppose when I am I could poll the forum, but that usually leads to a response like....whatever you feel they are worth, or a back-handed smart **** remark. I suppose it's an issue I can deal with when it's actually and issue for me.

FWIW, I completely understand where you're coming from as far as the great deals that are to be had here. Ok I'll just spell it out. I'm going to be getting the sl2000 replacement tweets and after making sure they are to my liking I may sell my original sl2000's. I've been looking at what past sl2000's have gone for and so far I haven't run across to many former threads that have $$$.

Hmm. I personally don't think it'd be a bad idea to leave the asking/selling price in the thread for future reference. However, since I'm not actually involved in the FM...feel free to ignore my thoughts...:p

I wouldn't mind if they were kept as I like to turn some items and would like to offer them at what I bought them for. This is causing a little confusion on my part for an amp and pair of speakers that will be available at Polkfest

As a member that has made numerous purchases off our FM, I would have to agree with H9 and MM to a certain degree. Like for instance, this is a hypothetical ex, let's say I had bought a pair of LS90s from a member that needed cash ASAP. He, publically, offers them to me for like $200. The fair market value might be $350+. Now, just because I help a fellow member out of a jam and in turn get a tremendous deal, that doesn't de-value future LS90 sales, imo. The next set comes up for sale a month later for $350, and all we can remember is that JOE SCHMOE sold his to ND13 for $200.
The next thing you see in that thread/listing is like, take it to EBAY, noone here will pay that kind of money for it here, the last set sold for $200. That's just not realistic now is it???

There has to be an alternative solution to this. Let's say that when that SUPER DUPER deal comes along that we edit the price out, but on sales that are more in the normal price range of like items, we leave it in. JMO :)

ND13, I agree with you in part- However, if you came back and sold those same speaks for $350, well that's low.

My concern is the price of turning items, not neccessarily new items introduced.

    .

Don't worry, that would not ever occur, as far as it concerning me. I sincerely think that the majority of the members wouldn't try to do that, either. :)

The only time that I would ask for more than I paid for something, that I bought here on the FM, is if I refurbished, upgraded, modded, etc, etc, said item.

Another thing that I've seen happen, a few times, is that someone has listed an item on our FM that the seller had purchased here and priced it higher than they paid for it. In one instance, the seller couldn't recollect the price they had paid for said item and no longer could reference the price from the listing that he found it in. I don't think that that member did it on purpose, either. He got flamed for it, also. In that particular case, the flaming was not warranted, it was an honest mistake and was corrected immediately. That's not to say that there might not be someone that wouldn't try to profit off of an item that they had bought here, and that's why, in most cases, the price would have been better off being left on the initial listing.

I agree...but it may happen unintentionally especially if one can't go back and do some research. If I buy something from you now below the going price and decide to sell it back on the Forum a year from now, I may not remember what I paid. It would nice to be able to go back and see. I suppose it's just as easy to make a note and keep it with the item.

It is an "informal" flea market at best. The rules are (and should be) very simple. SET a price you are comfortable with that is FAIR and possibly a deal. Post pics if possible and DON"T SCREW ANYBODY. If your prices are out of line, rest assured that someone will let you know. If you are unsure what is fair, send a PM to the parties that have bought or sold a similar item. I'll bet you get a response. If you are looking for top dollar go to E-bay, Audiogon, Craiglist, etc.

Ever so often we get the "let's set up more flea market rules" and IMO that just complicates things. This is not a slam on H9 or anyone else...it just seems that the more simple we keep it...the better it will work in the longrun. To date, the members seem to have done a pretty good job of "self policing" the Flea Market.

BTW - ALL FLEA MARKET FEEDBACK WAS UPDATED YESTERDAY - RATHER THAN RESPOND TO 70 PMS - IF I GOT IT, I UPDATED THE LIST - THANK YOU

Not looking to change/set rules....just basically running an idea up the flag pole. Great comments; good debate. And yes, for the short period of time I've been here I've noticed our FM is a great place to exchange merch.

Noel, read your edit...great minds think alike ;)

All sold items should have the price deleted as soon as the deal is made, period. That's the way we do it here......it's in the unwritten rules, which should stay unwritten.
