Can anyone recommend a high quality CD recorder and player? I'd like to record at 1X if possible for the best quality and be able to omit parts of some tunes with a fad in and out. Is this possable with a CD recorder?

Thanks for any recommendations.

Peter

Are you looking for a computer (operating system) based system or a stand-alone?
Are these your own tunes (mixing) or are you doing something along the lines of remixing existing CDs for your own use (kinda like DeeJaying)

I want to mix my own CDs from CDs but not use the complete tune sometimes. I also want make CDs from tapes and LPs. I really would like to fad the song mix and if possible have them over lap. That is, one song ending as another fads in. You would hear both songs at the same time. I can't seem to do this on my computor and I also hate doing this on a computor. I really want the feel of knobs or sliders to control the input amplitude of the mix. Does any one understand this.

This was fun to do with my old reel to reel Teac tape deck.

Maybe I'm in the wrong forum, but I would like to buy such a device used if possible.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

As far as I know, you'll have to get some kind of mixer and record from two different sources in order to be able to fade one song into another one using a stand alone component CD recorder. Even then you'd need to be pretty good, because a mistake would potentially ruin your CD compilation. Most of them have fade-in/fade-out capabilities that work on an individual track, but not to mix or crossfade songs. OTOH, you can do this with software on a computer pretty easily, I think. The stand alone components are great for recording records or tapes.

It would be time-consuming, but you could always record to CD on the component deck, rip to computer and mix as you wish, then burn back to CD.

you can crossfade using a computer- Itunes & winamp both do it. I can't remember how each does the tracks when writing to wav, but either it'll create a single large one that you can then split up, or it'll switch halfway through the fade.

If you have a steady hand, a good quality HI-FI VCR , 2 sources and a Y-splitter to the input, fade one source out as the other is faded in. I have a Sony PCM-501ES converter. It allows PCM recording in/out on a HI-FI VCR. Then I use a Harmon-Kardon CDR26 to burn the CDR.

WOW you have given me some interesting options. I used the Y spitter in the old days with my reel to reel to do the fads. I have two S-VHS decks that may do this. Need to check if they have record level adjustments.

Which CD burner that is a stand alone do you guys like? Any favorites?

    Thanks for your input.

    Hey Peter,
I too have an HK CDR26 and it is a good unit. Ironically enough I just put it on ebay last night as I barely ever use it. If you are interested PM me, I can always end the auction.
    Thanks,

If you are looking for a stand-alone CDR I have a friend who uses a HHB CDR830. 1-12 second fader for example. Check it out here:
