Fan noise in Xbox

When using my xbox media centre, I find the fan noise to loud. I have changed the setting to 50%(default was 20% which is to be less loud) I am not sure how low I can go so my HD doesn't burn out or that I ruin my box. Or does anyone know if I can replace the fan?

Thanks

My xbox is only 4 months old. It's not fried. It's not in a media cabinet but I used the software Xbox media centre (it's moded). This is when the fan makes more noise. When playing games I can hardly hear it.

    Hey willow,

Just turn the sound up on your reciever! :D

Seriously, you may need to replace the fan, because if you don't cool that Xbox properly, it will fry for sure. Has the light around the eject button changed red or orange? If not, your Xbox is okay. But, replacing the fan may not be a bad idea. Go to your owners manual to find a contact for ordering part for the Xbox. Do you think the modding had anything to do with the fan blowing harder? Look into it.

It only bothers me when I play at night and my wife is sleeping, i turn the receiver down and I can hear the fan. Nothing has changed, the only time the fan kicks in loud is when the media centre software kicks in. My bro's does the same, it's just I like quiet. It's not a big deal, I just wanted to know if anyone has experienced this and what they have done. I could never afford games without the mod. 50 games at an average of 40$ game.

If his does the same thing, then I wouldn't worry about it. My old lady sleeps through it when I play mine late at night. I could probably drive a train through my house, and she wouldn't wake up. :D
The mod seems like a good deal, but You should cut your fan back up to the default setting so you won't fry it. You ever thought about using headphones through the receiver with the speakers off? That is the only thing I can think of to help you.

earphones, well I would need an extension I am 12Ft away from the receiver. 50% is good it's higher than 20%, it's the reverse. Funny though my wife says she sleeps lightly, but when the dog cries to go out at 430am she can't hear her.
