Placement question...SDA SRS

I have attached a photo of my room with the SDA SRS' shown. How much of a sound sacrifice would I be making if I put them up in the cabinets...the area you see behind each speaker. They would fit perfectly. I know this is a no-no, but it would look so good I can't help but consider it.

Hmmmm? placing them in the cabinents wouldn't be ideal that's for sure. only you can tell though. those babies are HEAVY, weighing in @ 185lbs each. i know. i've moved them before.
Most people i would think would nix your idea. but if that's your only option, give it a try. i think the only negative effect you would have is that it MIGHT interfere with the wide spacious sound of the SDA.
Also from your picture, you have your SRS's toed in. that's a no no. the SDA's don't need to be toed in like other speakers. straighten them suckers out for best sound.

They won't be toed in when the new amps get here. That's just the way they are sitting now, as I was checking out the enormous wiring job I have ahead of me...especially getting the two monoblock amps to have common grounds when they are 9 feet apart. I have to run all the wires behind the custom built cabinet...going to be fun. I think I will leave them out in the room, I don't want to loose any effect. It is also likely that if I put them up in the cabinet, they will cause it to vibrate something fierce.Alex Cagann

Oh...the cat comment..LMAO...I forgot to tell you....yes, the cat is worried about the new speakers. She has been smelling them for two hours. I'll have to wait to see her reaction when they are each wired to 800w monoblock amps. ;-)Alex Cagann

Cool setup! I, personally, wouldn't recommend the cabinet location if it lifts them as high as it appears it would.
BTW - I have a pair of SDA SRS and you might have an issue with monoblocks. They need a common ground. If your monos can be wired ground to ground at the binding posts, everything might be okay. -

I would not do it. Looks like its going to choke the soundstage.

Room looks nice with the SRSs. How close are they to the side walls. Polk recommends at least 4 ft from the side walls and a few inches in front of any cabinents. Most people don't have this kind of space. They still sound great even if the walls are choking the SDA soundstage.
Is that a glass of scotch in the foreground on the table? Scotch enhances the SDA effect!Carl -
3 feet from the side walls, at least 6 feet apart and 5 to 18 inches from the back wall. Do NOT put them inside your cabinet space.Political Correctness'.........defined

Thanks for the info guys. That is a glass of canidian club...and after carrying those speakers I needed one. I've had alot of speakers in the past, alot of heavy ones, but the SDA SRS are ridiculously heavy.Alex Cagann

Don't forget to use the feet. Rubber for bare floors and the spikes for carpet. Really can make a differance. -

what do the carpet spikes look like? and how does that help the sound?PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Personally I think they are in the worst location already. My guess is that if you put them next to either side of the screen they would sound MUCH better unless there is something really odd about your room. Pretty much in front of (or in) the other shelves should be much better. In or out of the shelf area? Hmmm, certainly would be worth a try if you really want them out of the room.Vinyl, the final frontier...

On my SDA's the carpet spikes are about 2" long bits of threaded rod that are flat on on end and ground to a point on the other. Look to be about 1/4x20 threads? The tighten up the bass and can be used to level off the speakers a bit. Oh yea they also make them REALLY hard to move around -
Spikes and feet. The guy I bought my speakers from was missing foot number eight, but Polk customer service hooked me up. The feet are metal and smooth on the bottom.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 *

I see the big SDAs will be performing some movie duty... sooooo whatever floats your boat I guess.
However, looking at them from a 2ch perspective, I would have to say that you probably couldn't put them in a worse (sounding) location than by putting them up in the wall cases.
