I just recently gotten a part time job at Fry's where I work after college. I'm 20 and staying with my parents for another year or two while in school. So I have no bills to pay other than gas,gf, and food. I owe $700 on my credit card and $800 left on my car which i'll have paid off soon. So my question is I make around $250/week until I move up to commission. I get 60% off all Polks I want to get the Rti10s,fxi5s, a psw505 all for $840 tax included. I already have a csi3, and I am going to get the H/K avr235 for $370 tax included. Which makes the grand total around $1,200. I know my parents wouldn't be too happy about me spending that much on speakers, but I been wanting buy to them for awhile now and at this discount doesn't it seem logical to go out and buy real GOOD speakers?

I am going to pay off my car and credit card first ofcourse.

Thats a very good price on a very good system. I've put more into mine, which is the lesser system.

If I were you, in your position, I would do it.

Sorry, Mom and Dad just won't understand while they are still helping out (unless Dad is an audiophile). Just the way it is.

    Great deals though...

    KrazyMofo,

I was in the same situation a little while back with the rents, I just explained to them that it was better that I spend my money on something I cared about i.e. my system, then spending it on alchohol and pot. I also explained to them that I was working 30hrs a week and going to school full time, and I think that I deserve to spend my money how I see fit. I compared it to my brother and his car, he spent close to $30,000 on a Dodge Stealth (mostly repairs). After that they stoped bitching about the cost of everything. Of course I haven't told them the cost of anything since I got my JBLs, and alot has changed since then. I wonder what their faces would be like if they knew how much I really spent on everything.

That's good advice, unless you are also spending money on alcohol, pot, and cars, of course. ;)

Thanks for the responses I feel better about buying the speakers now. I have to be patient though I have to pay the majority of what I owe first then save money to send the form out to Polk. I then have to wait up to 12 weeks to arrive. I am probably going to buy the h/k235 receiver and rti4's to go with the csi3 to get me by.

Just let them know how good it feels for you to set a goal for yourself, and then achieve it...

It`s hard to argue with that..

They probably will, but will understand once they see how happy it makes you..

You could always set some goals that they would like to see you make , and make them happy later...

As a parent though...you always like to see your kids reach thier goals they set for themselves, work hard for, and achieve

It makes you proud of yourself, and that makes parents happy in return...just sorta works that way..!

    Besides...if they don`t like your decision...they`ll get over it...eventually..!!

    Just my .02..and a half !

although I try to run this by the wife, and she doesn`t buy it..!
She is not amused at my "Hobby" spending..!!

I went to go buy a pair of Rti4's just using my employee discount so I can have some good speakers to get me by while I save for the others. I asked for the cherry pair and the sales guy said that they only had the black, and that he had the Rti6's in cherry. He showed me the difference in size and said that they sounded "way better" and said that they had better bass. I went with the Rti4's got them for $140 I can get the Rti6's for $215 I didn't have that much extra to buy them but I will later. I think the rti4's have better mids, but I havent gave the 6's a real good listen. The sub I have sucks and I can only have it set at low because of parents.

Are the Rti6's better for music? I listen to most of my music at low to medium volume most of the time. The 6.5 driver will match the rest of the speakers I am getting but which one gives better mids or highs?

Buy what you can afford now. sounds like the RTi4's will hold you over till you can upgrade. upgrading is the word most of us live by.. some of us... don't know any other words. :p

Make sure you hang on to your job till you get the Polks you want... otherwise you'll kick yourself in the arse for not.

good luck... and it sounds like you're on the right track for a nice system.

I own the RTi6's, but use them as Rears in HT. They sound pretty good and not as flat as the 38's which I have as surrounds. As indicated, go with what you can afford. Going in debt for audio is NOT a good idea. Good financial habits will help you acquire the future audio components you desire.

PS - Parents are why you are here.
